According to the latest issue of Motor Trend, the "next generation" CTS-V (it doesn't say when this will happen) will have a supercharged version of the current 505 hp Corvett motor. This motor will also be available on the Z06 Corvett. The anticipated power for the CTS-V is 600 hp. This is supposedly a response to the BMW M5, but at 600+ hp it would also challege the new Viper.

In addition, it is stated that GM is developing a less expensive (to manufacture) version of the Northstar engine. This alternative engine would replace the Northstar, but would have most of the same high-tech features such as overhead cams and VVT.
