I stumbled upon this site while fooling around with google. I wish I had done that a bit earlier. I've got a 1998 DeVille, Mariner Edition. This is my second Mariner edition, the previous one was a 96 that I took to 100K miles and it was remarkably trouble free. I had it for 3 years, 60+K miles and the only significant event was a bad fuel pump. Of course, that's a fortune, having to drop the tank to replace it.
Anyway, my new (11 months now) 98 just lost it's heater (blower motor). Cost me $600 to put a new one in. The tech said Caddy won't sell the original type blower motor and the new type requires adapters. He said he didnt know that and that's why his initial quote of $500 went up by a hundred. The guys been the head service tech at this dealership forever (at least isnce 2000).
Anyway, I had it done. I also had a throttle body service which seems to have fixed the cruise control problem. I'm thinking the throttle had something to do with the cruise cutting off and not coming on at all on occasion.
Overall I love the car. It's now in perfect operating condition, i.e., nothing at all wrong (if the cruise says functional). I'm a field insurance adjuster who spends many hours and miles in the car. I bill back my miles so fuel costs and mileage isn't a huge issue. I need absolute comfort so that when I get back from a long trip I can walk in the office and calmly do a report or negotiate a settlement without that post-trip buzz you get from anything less than a Caddy.
Any comments on the cruise control issue and whether or not the throttle body service could have cured it?
