I've just recently got an odd issue with my fuel guage. For as long as I've owned the car, after I fill up, it'll read F for the first 45-50 miles after I've refilled, just like clockwork, every week. Now, it read F until about 22 miles after I've refilled then down from there. And every other gallon of gas is the same way. Usually, it'll read 15 gallons from about 45 miles until about 62 miles or so...now I'm at 62 miles and it's reading 12 gallons in tank. On the "gallons remaining" it'll show the same number for about 7-8 miles, which is 1/2 what it usually lasts.

Is my fuel sending unit going bad? I noticed this just last week and am NOT happy about it! And if any of you are wondering, my AVG MPG reads the same as always, ~16 MPG, which means that I'm driving it the same as usual, and the fuel used button right now reads like 3.3 gallons, which would be like 14 gallons, not 12.

Any of you have an issue like this or is it "chad exclusive"? This makes me real mad because if it is something to do with the sending unit in the tank, I'll have to drop the tank to fix it, and that's not gonna be cheap, and at this stage, I'm trying to spend the least amount possible on this car so I can save up for the next!

Thanks in advance,
Chad.

I drove like 13 miles today and it dropped 3 gallons...12-9. This is just insane. I'm gonna refill my tank after work today to see if the guage is infact inaccurate, or if my MPG has dropped that much.

Any codes from a bad sensor or something? Is there a chance you're actually using that much gas?

I'd hazard a guess and say the sender unit is going bad. The 92 Deville's sender unit is replaceable only by dropping the tank. It's not a bad job, but you live in Minnesota and if you don't have a heated garage....

Well I've got good news and bad news...

Good News:
The guage is in fact accurate. I went to the gas station today after work, filled 'er up...8.02 gallons for 73 miles.....9.2 MPG.

Bad News:
I'm getting 9MPG.
