: Nav Screen Diagnostic Mode Instructions

01-12-07, 07:12 PM
Here are the instructions for getting into the diagnostic mode of the STS and STS-V navigation/audio/video system.

Use at your own risk...

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010034.jpg Press the "MENU" button while in the navigation mode.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010035.jpg Next to the header, press and hold in the center of the screen as shown for about 5-7 seconds.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010036.jpg When the keypad appears, enter "9448" and then press "OK".

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010039.jpg You will then be presented with 2 pages of options.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010037.jpg This should answer any questions that there is a gyro on board because on this screen you can read the signals from it.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010038.jpg How comfortable does it make you feel about our government when 12 satellites can see you inside your garage?

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010041.jpg The hard switch test is pretty cool.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/ssstealth/STS-V/P1010040.jpg The color adjustment screen.

There are more as well. I would suggest being especially careful with "Ship Mode" and the touch screen calibration.

No, I did not find the code for unlocking DVD view while out of park or the one to allow my passenger to imput stuff while driving.

A little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing!

Thanks ssstealth...:D

Cool info! Thanks for sharing!

do you know if you are able to adjust any of the gyro settings, like the sensitivity?

will copy to sts-v and audio forums.

do you know if you are able to adjust any of the gyro settings, like the sensitivity?

There is only a "RESET" button in this mode. I'm sure there are other modes available but with a 6 digit pin available, it could take years to try them all.

interesting but I see no use for most of us.

01-14-07, 09:22 AM
In the manual check there is "microphone test"...

Is there anyway i can increase the sensetivity of the MIC ?? ... coz when talkin through the bluetooth, person on the other side cannot easily hear me... i have to shout

might be able to now see exactly what shuts gyro off.

Nice find. I went through most of the menus and saw nothing too exciting. However, it give me hope that there is a hidden soft button to get into the programming to unlock those "features" we all want. Every morning I spend a few extra minutes in the car pressing on different parts of the various screens. Hopefully one of these days something will appear. Then of course the real trick will be to hack the pin.

01-23-07, 03:09 PM
cool find!
they have to have a gyro test feature hidden somewhere if the exact voltage could be found at rest maybe it (the gyro) could be bypassed or if we are lucky shut off.

The keypad will accept 6 digits so I think guessing or sequencing through the possible combinations is not a plausible project.

02-24-07, 12:11 AM
It's pretty amazing that we have not been able to find the access codes or the documentation somewhere. I don't think that the Department of Defense has this kind of security on the launch codes for the nuclear arsenal!

has anyone looked in the factory cadillac STS service manual for this information? how else would a caddie tech know or learn this info?

02-24-07, 07:10 AM
Caddie techs do not repair the nav radio system. They simply exchange them with a repair facility. There are some simple troubleshooting procedures to identify if the nav unit is defective. There is nothing in the FSM regarding schematics or repair to the actual nav unit.

02-24-07, 01:03 PM
Just to tack on a little more info they actually don't even go to a true repair facility. They are first re-programmed at the dealership level if possible and if a replacement is needed it is a depot exchange. The depot does a plug-in diag and re-flash of the unit to the latest rev. and if it passes it goes back out as a replacement.

The servicing dealer can request a new OEM replacement unit but only if they determine a specific need for it.

Units in need of a true repair are shipped back to Denso who may or more likely will not do anything other than run the diags to t-shoot the root cause and then destroy the unit.

GM uses a remove and replace policy rather than a repair and return one...

Just ran a search on "gyro", got nothing.

What do the gyros do, and why would we want to bypass them?

02-28-07, 09:53 AM
will thanks bro. this is somthing realy new !

03-16-07, 03:20 PM
With as many members as there are on this site, couldn't we all get together and start trying codes in sequence to try to attempt to find new combinations, that would in turn reveal new codes and unklock features? For example, one member could start with codes 000000-000100 then the next member could try codes 000101-000200 and so on, until we crack a code? Seems like a long shot, but if we want to unlock the features, it may be worth it...

ok, im on 659223....nothing.....659224....nothing.......(jus t kiddin) :bouncy:

We have 3 cars with Nav systems now. Together we have about 470,000 miles collected between them. Do you really think it would be unreasonable to ask GM that if I answer "I Agree", let's say 10,000 times... that they could QUIT ASKING ME???!!!

How about just a disclaimer that states "By shifting the gear selector out of Park, you agree to these terms".

Luckily, the oldest one we have is the 94 Fleetwood TS. This one still asks us to "agree" but will allow videos to play and addresses to be put in while moving.

has anyone tried the 1791 code?

08-19-07, 02:52 PM
has anyone tried the 1791 code?
It doesn't work. On top of that, I have to disconnect the battery to exit diagnostic mode.

03-04-08, 07:59 PM
Has anyone ever had any errors detected? I just went into the diagnostics menu and it showed two errors.

After each error it showed a date and time. I am guess when the errors occurred. I ran the self check and it said no errors detected???

Anyone have any idea what the codes are?

I am interested in the bluetooth check, does anyone have info on this test?

10-19-09, 01:15 AM
I found a link on this forum with a code for the cadillac SUV's that was the same process as this. The code was something like 296645. I used it and it worked. I forgot the number and can't find the link anymore. Can someone please point me to it.

I wish I could decrease the sensitivity of my Bluetooth. When people talk to me, they hear themselves echoing. I have to turn the volume way down to solve this problem. To the point where I can barely hear them talking.

For the 2008 STS the code is:

10-20-09, 10:38 AM
What does that code do?

10-20-09, 11:02 AM
I have been searching different forums and Denso makes NAVs for alot of different brand vehicles.

I have found some other codes that work on the STS NAV but they all lead to the same screen and all do the same things. There has to be more codes to let you do more.

So far these codes work but do nothing more than the 9448 code.

1765 (or 1756 cant remember)

10-20-09, 04:32 PM
So has anyone actually done anything of any use once in this menu?

10-20-09, 05:50 PM
I'm still trying to figure out what a gyro is...

10-20-09, 05:59 PM
gyro - a Greek sandwich: sliced roast lamb with onion and tomato stuffed into pita bread.

10-20-09, 06:00 PM
Its a device that can sense if you are turning.

10-20-09, 06:01 PM
Gyroscope----- google it

10-20-09, 06:20 PM
Ah okay, thanks.

I'm gonna go get myself some gyro.

For the 2008 STS the code is:

This code is good for the 2010 STS Nav unit, as well.

3657 should also provide a diag screen ... it seems to be equivalent to the 9448 code for the 05-07 model.

Confirmed working w/3657 - Thanks!!
