I'm looking at an '04 Northstar 4.0 complete with 3 miles on it. How difficult is it to make it work in '97 if you have all the electronics, intake manifold, etc front the '97?

It will be a 4.6L in that 04 and it will not work in your 97, the reluctor wheel is different to start with. and if it is a 4.0L it is a olds aurora and if it is a 04 it did not exist......Need info on the car you are trying to put it in....sts, dts, sls, ect and rpo code or engine code....

Someone posted that they had swapped a 2000 into a 199X more than a year ago. They got it to work but did not give details. They fabricated whatever was needed. It was not easy.

If the number of teeth on the reluctor wheel is the same then it is possible but far from a bolt in.

According to the seller it came out of a 04 Aurora that they put a 400HP engine in. There is a picture available and it is a V8. I thought they went to the V6 in the 01. My thought was to pick up a 97'ish Aurora with bad HG if I can pick this engine up at the right price. Not too many 03 or 04 needing an engine at this point. I'll ask for a serial number.

Same as before it will not work 03 to 97 and I do believe there is know such thing as a 2004 aurora......03 was the last year for the aurora (verysad)
on Auroras stick with this age range 1995-1999.2001-2003 for the engine swap...none exsisted in 2000......the block repairs same as the 4.6L I also own 2 Auroras and have done to many of these repairs......Very easy repair..

I asked the seller for the serial number. It sounds like if its a 4.0 V8 it can't be any newer than a 99 and will work. I bought a 97 Aurora with 89000 for 1700.00 and fixed the and fixed the HG, what a car!

It is the spacing....dont try this at home 2000 up way diff from 1999 down and thats just mechanical not including controls....

Get the VIN number if it is 99 and down then you have a winner :)

you will have to call the dealer should be engine build part number, should be on a stamped tag attached to bank 1 side of engine right above lower crankcase.
