: LT1 Ignition Module reliability improvement?

I just did this while I was working on going through my Opti and a new (rebuilt) water pump. Someone on a F-Body forum was having problems with heat killing his ignition module. So I did what he did, slightly different, but the basic synopsis is to stand off the ignition module from the head so it doesn't have to soak up all that heat. I used nuts to stand it off and made sure the heat sinks were clean (they were really dirty with 211K of oil sludge).

It is noticably cooler, after a long drive, you can touch it, before, not a chance to touch it.

That is a pretty good idea. Thanks for sharing -- I could see how that would be helpful for longevity and possibly better performance/economy.
