I personally do a lot of personal tuning for the LT1/4L60E. I have capabilities to do most any GM car that has OBD1.

I use TunerCat and TunerProRT.

TunerProRT is free, TunerCat is available at TunerCat.com, and is well worth the $$.

how much hp can you get from a tune on the LT1?

and how much does it cost?

I'm no tuner but I do have a TwEECer sitting in my parts bin, waiting for spring...

TwEECer is for Fords right? I haven't heard of them just what little I have seen on the net.

As for HP on the LT1, I would say 10-15 hp is reasonable. But the improvements in transmission shifting and driveabiliy are soooo well worth it.

You can turn off EGR, or change when or how it turns on, you can turn on/off the AIR pump (legal on 95-96 models per EPA), you can change timing anywhere, you can remove the MAF, you can tweak the timing retard for traction control, you can change shift times, you can change shift pressures, you can change shift speeds/rpms, you can change idle speeds, you can do all kinds of good stuff, the list goes on and on!

You can get a cable at akm cables or pcmperformance.com. I use the latter.

TwEECer is for EEC-IV Fords, which is most OBDIs including my Mark VIII.

Considering I work for the company who designed and manufactured your PCM, I should know, but we don't have the tools like that, we don't even do any software programming, Ford doesn't want us to. The factory does to a limited extent, but most of the software is programmed by programmers and we solder the memories to the board already programmed. Ford controls the software, we have nothing to do with it and Ford doesn't want us to know much about it. Silly eh?

I work with one of the guys who was the processor guy on the Marauder PCM. But he works on cell phones now....

Any ideas?

(the L29, the engine that should have been put in the 1994-1996 Fleetwoods....)

do you have a leak in you exhaust manifold i have seen this before on a typhoon i had if you dont and you have changed the vcm with a good one then you know its not in the vcm it might be a o2 senser oh and tunercat has the software for your truck i have done few of them

No leaks. Even then, the PCM would see lean, not rich. It thinks it is waay rich (-18.0% LTFT) Both O2's are new and both agree on -18.0% rich. Note -18.0, not -18.1, not fluxuating, a strict -18.0%. Only time it deviates from it is decel and idle. So it strikes me as PCM intentional, but it doesn't make sense why, if it intentionally is doing it, why would it trip a code then???

I have 2 PCM's, stock and tuned, both are the same, -18.0%

Cool, I am looking to get TunerCat II soon. HPT and EFILive are too pricey for the GUI and a $100 per car license...

Yes Westers has the Ford tuning out. Been using it the last six months. If you get into Fords use the bench on the trucks/cars with the remote starts to avoid Data Link Problems. Yes l agree at $100 per liecence for the HP is a rip off. There is only three trucks l use HP for the Canyon/Colorado and the 07/08 Duramax. l use my Edit on all others. I had a Customer contact me Fri saying he could buy the tuning software for the same price l was charging for his Custom Tune lol Custom tuning is actually a fine art that takes years of experience.

Doesn't LT1 Edit/LS1 Edit/LS2 Edit have the same $100 per VIN issues as HPT/EFILive?

I hear that, there is NO way you can learn all this overnight, even if you did know the tool. It takes time and understanding of internal combustion engines, and knowing each specific engine combination, knowing what works, what doesn't, what to do with each mod, and to fudge in some safety factors to make a good solid reliable tune that won't cause damage and still will do well at extracting as much power out of the engine that you can get....

NOT a light task that you can learn overnight....

I myself come from learning turbo Pontiac V8's, Pontiac 455's, 400's, Olds 350's, 307's and various others... Been messing with them since the early mid 80's.... Times HAVE changed!
