I am new to the forums and have had my 04' CTS 3.6L VVT for just over 2 months now .... I LOVE IT !!!

I just did my first mod, painting part of the engine cover to match the Raven Black paint.

I am currently working on designing a carputer installation using a 7" touchscreen lcd and an IBM thinkpad as the computer. Has anyone had any experience adding one fo these to your CTS...

I am thinking i will build a slide out tray under the rear deck in the trunk, this is where ill mount the laptop and put the power inverter. I am also thinking of using a Nucleas to tap into the XM2 channel to avoid having to dig into the wiring behind the dash.

Any help ideas or gotchas would be greatly appreciated.

A couple guys have done the carputer install. I was a member of mp3car.com for many years but never did my install. Im a PC tech so doing the install would have been pretty easy for me. My new CTS has DVD Nav so I dont need to worry about the carputer anymore. Do a search on it and Im sure you will find some old threads! 2 members have done the install, one was Mbai and the other was afterdigi I think....

cool, nice to see another carputer going in a caddy... I'm about to start my dts, & I'm from mp3car too.... seen afterdigital's install there... nice:)

are you guys removing the stock headunit? I don't know the cts' at all really, do you guys have the issue with the onstar & the chimes going through the stock head? what about class II data?.. are you interfacing to the factory amp w the factory speakers? is it a bose?

you should have painted the grill to match while u were at it ;)

I do have the Bose system wihtout the NAV, I am planning on taking out the cd changer and placing the screen in that space with a small wood bezel stained the same color as the wood trim in my car.
As far as hooking the audio in, I am going to try modding a Nucleus unit that was made for hooking in an iPod to the XM2 channel of the existing system, that would let me hook all the suio in without having to muck around with the DIC and such.
I am looking at using Centrfuse as my front end on the carputer, still havent figured out if the ODB module in it will work with the CTS or not.
Still mostly researching at this point.

You guys are right it aint cheap here, already got a color matched spoiler orderd and going to color match my grill next.

oh, so keeping the factory head... that should make it much less complicated... good luck with it;)
