I was going to home depot last night and I went to make a left hand turn but realized that I made a mistake. So I merged right to go straight. I noticed the cameras snap a picture. There was no other car that could have been snapped so I am assuming it was me.

Am I screwed? There were no other cars going in my direction.

Can I say that I was avoiding something that caused me to hit the sensor in that left turn lane?

This blows.

BTW, the left turn arrow was red at the time but the light to go straight was green (not yellow).

You have the right to defend yourself in court, if it goes that far. I think simple geometry will help you in the picture. I think you'll be alright.

really i would just pay, because a red light ticket is point in New York, if you say it was you. If you admit it was you then they could give you points.... But what do i know. I got one too once. 50 bucks, but first see if you get a ticket. they may not send it depending on the position of the car.

You might check with Bob D at caddyinfo.com. I seem to recall him fighting and beating one of those, albeit under slightly different circumstances.

I'll bet you have nothing to worry about. They'll review the picture, and probably say WTF? Since you were going straight instead of turning in violation of the arrow, I think you'll be okay.

You have to screw up REALLY bad to get a ticket from one of those things around here. I saw a cop give a 30-minute speech on it complete with videos. If you're even part-way across the wide white stripe while the light is still yellow, they let you go.

The problem comes when you are sitting in the intersection, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass, the light turns yellow and you have to wait for the guy trying to beat the yellow. He makes it and the light turns red while your just starting to make your turn. Camera snaps your (still) picture and it looks like you ran the red.

theres a slew of ways to fight the camera tickets but first you would need to receive the ticket and the pic that they send you then decide if its a bad pic a bad angle if they clearly got you or its hard to tell.
Google it and you'll find all the different solutions

All of the ones around here store a few seconds of video too...which makes it way way way harder to fight but in this case you'd get off easy. Good luck and keep us posted!

You may have made an improper lane change from the sound of it, but those systems don't send out tickets for lane change violations. There's a very small chance you'll even get a ticket in the first place, but if you do you can likely get out of it on that technicality alone.

Next time you register, get a license plate like this:

(It reads zero, D, O, O, zero, D, O)

I think this was said in different words but the manuever that got you into trouble to begin with was illegal. You are not supposed to change lanes in an intersection. I'd pay it if I got the ticket. :hammer:
