Well I got a Zune for christmas and I love it! So much better then my sisters Ipod Nano! But I was just wondering what do you guys/gals think? I used to have an Ipod but I got rid of it because I didn't see what all the hype was about. My Zune plays movies, music, displays pictures, connects to online by itself and I can transfer songs from other people with Zune's that are nearby. Best part is is that it has a 28 GB Hard drive. I have every picture, movie, and thing of music from my laptop on there and I still have 22 GB left! I'm going to start burning DVD's and throw them on my Zune. So what do you guys think?

I used to not care about portable mp3 players, but then I got an iPod mini for my birthday in 2004. I fell in love with that and it's usefulness. Then I got an iPod video for Christmas 2005 and I take it with me anywhere I go. I have a lot of my music on it, and I download and convert TV shows to take with me. I've never used a Zune, but I'm and iPod guy through and through.

I got an iPod mini, I personally like it. I also love Jason's iPod video, he has music videos and TV shows + movies on it. He can hood it up to his navi system and it plays on the screen, pretty nifty little gaget.

I gotta look this Zune thing up. Sounds like what I'm looking for.

Since I have no use for watching movies or things like that on a 2.5 in screen, my 30GB ipod photo has suited me perfectly. It's been working perfectly since I bought it new in Feb. '05

Chalk up one more for iPod.

I have an iPod video... although I don't know why. I only use it for music and honestly wouldn't even consider watching video on it.

I looked at the Zune... long enough to realize what it is: a cheap iPod clone. For example, the face is made to imitate the iPod's touch-sensitive clickwheel, but it's just a button. If they're going to imitate, the least they can do is do it right.

The Zune is kind of like the XBOX360 in my opinion. It's nice, but what's the point if you can have a PS3? :lildevil:

Apple and microsoft both engage in practices regarding these things that I want nothing to do with. If I ever buy an MP3 player it will be one I can load with removable cards.

Well I'm going to vote for Zune. I don't have either. I have used an iPod and liked it but I don't like the practices set forth by iTunes and the proprietary format thing.

I guess I'm linking iTunes and the iPod into one category but they are made to work as one.

I rambled about this in another similar thread. I really think the Zune will win with consumers because of it's versatility.

And Stoney, the VHS tape is on the right my friend not the left.

I vote for iPod. I bought a 30gb model right around the end of October and I love it. I have like 850 songs (my entire music library) and like 40 pictures on there and have only used up like 25% of it's memory. I love having my entire music library with me, wherever I go. As for a Zune, I've never heard of it.

I would love the zune if it weren't for the limited formats.....The Zune is not backward compatible with WMA-DRM9 and it cant play protected content and cant be used as a hard drive which I think would be awesome! proprietary USB and cant use Wi-Fi to sync, stream, or purchase content which I think is ridiculous! I think it has alot of potential but isnt there yet.
For the price I would go for the Zen Vision-M before the zune which will be my next MP3 purchase or even better would be the Zen Vision-W which has a much better screen for the movies and Tv shows but you're getting into the bigger bulky size and the cost is going up...although both the M and the W are available in 60Gig which would be a huge draw. The W has TV out....a nice feature if you got something on there and want to take it with you and watch it with others at a friends house or whatever. but I am getting off the subject.
The Ipod has so many accessories that alone is almost enough to get the vote but also the ipod has been out so much longer there are so many things changed from the original and the zune I feel will be the same way in a few years if Microsoft continues to back the device. Unfortunately microsoft has a history of writing off devices that they feel are not cutting the mustard so to speak instead of trying to better it and salvage the product.
I could go on forever on this topic but I'll just say this. I think the zune's biggest draw is the wifi sharing idea but without enough people around you with the zune its a lost cause unfortunately cause it does not let you do anything else with the Wi-Fi. Ipod wins my vote for now...nano and video.

It seems like theres so much more assesories for an IPOD..... I thinks its better because of that....You can also get a ton of help by visiting an Apple store....If you have any questions they are very helpful

Google "Zune" and "flop" and you get 879,000 results.

From Right On! (http://www.rightonblog.net/?p=753)
Of the Amazon Top 20, the iPod line appears 13 times, and that the ONLY Zune model to appear in the Top 20 is black yet falls in a paltry 18th place. Brown falls in at 49th place, and White comes in at a pathetic 62nd.
For one of the “biggest” holiday gadgets, not even pulling in the Top 10 on one of the larger internet marketplaces is quite sad for an “iPod killer”.
Brown?! What idiot thought that would be an appealing color?

Just for fun, I looked at a Zune at Target. It has what looks like the iPod's click wheel, but it's really just a series of buttons.

Typical lame Microsoft rip-off product. But then, I've been using Macs for 15+ years, so I admit I'm not entirely objective. Got a 2GB iPod Nano last fall and love it.

Zune is not even Vista compatible right now. No accessories for it and it is not selling at all. With the accessories and support for iPod you can not beat the line, you just need to drink the Apple coolaid.

Baseball and alcohol! Nothing better! Well, football and alcohol, and women and alcohol... Yankee fans and alcohol are always fun too!

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000209/): A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

To me the thing that I love about the Zune versus the Ipod is that the screen is bigger so when watching movies it makes it better to watch then looking at the Ipod's tiny little screen. The one thing that I absolutely hate with the Ipod is Itunes. It bogs the my laptop down so bad and runs like crap and takes forever to put the music onto it. My Zune put everything onto my Zune in a couple minutes. Unfortunately everybody is so up Ipod's ass that I think the Ipod will still win out but what can ya do

I dunno, I'm sure the ipod is a good product and all, but I don't have one. Mainly because I've had MP3 players before (still have a $5 128mb one) and don't use them, in my house I listen to music on the computer, in the car I listen to the sterio in there because it has actual speakers.

But they're also too trendy for my taste, and every douchebag I know is always listening to one (not to say everyone I see listening to one is a douchebag.)

This is unbelievable! I'll get back to that one Black!lol. Nah I mean I know the PSP is more versatile and has better graphics and all that but their gaming library (to me at least) leaves a lot to be desired. They have some decent one's but not too many that would make me want to drop $250 for one. And with UMD's not selling and companies supposedly stopping production of UMD movies then that's just another hit against it. I've played both the DS and PSP for extensive amounts of time and overall I like the game selection of the DS more and the fun factor was also better with the DS when it came to the games. I guess it's just personal preference

Survey says: Ipod is better by a huge margin. 4% say neither - how can that be? Maybe a 4th option "Don't care" would explain.

I'm pretty pleased with the Nano my wife bought me. Now she wants one!

One last post on the subject: Wired News covered sound enhancement (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/music/0,72425-0.html?tw=wn_story_page_prev2) of the lossy compressed files on the iPod and others. Some gadgets help noticeably.

There are other options. Creative has a very nice line of MP3 players that are very popular and sell a lot better than the Zune.

That's what I have now, and I'm very happy with it. They have a video version for $399 but I'm still a little hesitant.

I think I'll just beef-up my Pocket PC with a memory card and see how it goes.

That's fake, if it was a Zune it would be **** brown.

The iPod rules as far as I'm concerned, I've had several mp3 players and the easy to use interface of the player plus the flawless syncing with iTunes gives it the win for me. I don't care about fancy features, all I care about is ease of use. If it can do a lot but is a PITA to use then I don't want it. A good gadget shouldn't get in the way of the task it's trying to perform, it should make my life easier, not add workload.

Zune v3 might be a lot better as it takes Microsloth 3 attempts to even get things half right. But as so much time has passed it may be too late even for them.

Just as Walkman is the most common term for a personal cassette player, iPod has become the term for mp3 player. Which basically means game over. It's now just a fight for 2nd place.

I find it especially amusing that people berate the iPod for having DRM protected content. This is only for content you purchased from the iTunes store, anything you rip yourself using iTunes will play on any player.

But best of all, I love the fact that the Zune music is also DRM'd and it won't play any MS music you may have bought before, under the DRM scheme called "Plays for sure". How ironic. They need to add "Won't" to the front of that statement.
