View Full Version : I need help with my new rims and tires..the rubbing I just bot Feracci 22's with Toyo 305/45/22.
The problem is the rubbing anytime I am backing up. I can't even turn my wheels 15 degrees and they make that horrible rubbing/grinding noise.
My question is: How does a guy like me, with no mechanical expertise, correct the grinding problem? Are there specific shops that will help grind down specific parts of the vehicle that will prevent or lessen the rubbing?
I love the look of that size tire, but now I am thinking I made a mistake by going with that size.
Any and all help would be appreciated. FYI I do live in the Minneapolis area if anybody knows of a specific place that I could bring my vehicle to help. skides1 03-11-04, 12:55 AM I just bot Feracci 22's with Toyo 305/45/22.

The 305 45 is a huge tire....if you measure the hieght the tire its throwing everything off. speedo, alignment, brakes etc. ..You should have the tire store take them off and go with aspect ratio that closest matches the original tire. in your case its probably a 40 or 35 series tire. I have 20x10's with 295 50's w/no rub at all and they are not much shorter than yours.if you do snow or graze curbs ,as I do, you want a higher aspect ratio like you have.. I have a friend with 295 40 bfgoodrich g-force tkw's and they are sweeetttt!. expensive...but ssswweett. =terrible snow performace. 295 seems to be the width that works perfectly. you reduce aspect ratio by about 5 points per increased inch in sheel diameter. e.g. 295/50/20 base =295/45/21, 295/40/22, 295/35/23, 295/30/24 Hope i could help. skides1 03-11-04, 12:58 AM If you bought them online, whew, major ugly mods to running boardsfender wells ect. That SUCKS dude good luck:cool: clickart 03-11-04, 01:23 AM Try to trim the fender. I have 305/40/22 with 20+ offset and it rubbed at first. But I just trim the fender on the driver side, and now I don't have any rub at all. When you trim the fender on the driver side, careful because there is a water bottle right in front of the fender. As said you should have went with a 40 series tire rather than a 45 series, a 305/40/22 is the same overall height as the stock 265/70/17, the 305/45/22 tire is over 1 1/4" larger causing your speedo to read 57.8 mph when you are going 60, as well as not fitting the wheel well and hitting unless you raise the front. :) Machine 03-11-04, 10:59 AM Try using the Zip-tie fix. You're tire is rubbing the front, bottom piece of the wheel well trim... Poke a small hole in the plastic and zip-tie it to the front end. You can move the front, bottom portion of the plastic a good inch forward by doing this. I had to do this with my 285/50/20's and it has worked for over a year, now. What year escalade, 2000 model or 2002-up model?
On the 2000 model & all you have to do is cut about an inch off of the running board that pokes into the wheel well. It will not rub after that unless you hit dips too hard while turning. Use a small grinding saw or hacksaw. No one will even notice that it had been cut/shaved. It should have not had the point to begin with.
On the 2002 & up all you have to do is use zip ties to pull back the plastic wheel well covers & it will never rub. Just poke/ drill small holes in the plastic pull the twist tie through @ attach other end of twist tie to frame and pull tight. (Use black twist ties). In some cases I've seen where the frame behind inner wheel well near the running board does not allow the wheel well cover to be pulled back. If this is the case, get underneith there with a small ball ping hammer and slightly hammer the frame back. Only needs about 1/2 an inch. It is more of a crumple zone than the frame itself. It is a thin strip of metal that runs in front of the frame, you will know what I am talking about when you get under there.
I have seen this done, no one will even know that the twist ties or the frame has been bent back.
In any case, I think going w/ 305/45 is good only if you are going to be doing a lot of long distance driving (going out of town). If you are going to be local driving only 305/40 would have been a better choice. All of this is assuming that you will not be installing a lowering kit. If you are, you should have gone w/ smaller tires.
Now as for snow, I am from the South, and have no idea which tire is better for that.
Hope this helps BLUEXTON4S 03-24-04, 05:32 PM I Am Assuming U Have A 1st Generation Caddy. I Have Fixed 2 Of These With The Exact Same Tire Size. You Really Need A Die Grinder, U Can Pick One Up At A Hardware Store. All You Have To Do Is Saw Out A Little Bit Of The The Running Boards Where They Come To A Point Under The Wheel Well. Just Saw A Little At A Time Until U Get It To Where It Needs To Be. After I Did The 2 U Could Not Even Tell Anything Had Been Done. Just wanted to say thanks for this info. It worked perfectly. I got my 22 inch wheels put onto my 2003 Escalade and I noticed that when I turned the wheel all the way I would a little bit of running. This was on a 305/40/22 tire. Well I bought some zip ties and drilled a small hole in the wheel well and within 5 minutes I fixed the problem. Just remember there is a water bottle behind it so when you drill just pull the wheel well towards you and make a small hole. Very simple. :coolgleam Just wanted to say thanks for this info.
