I heard it hard to stop escalades with 24" unless you upgrade the brake is this true? escalade20002003 03-10-04, 01:19 PM Yes, the ride is alot bumpier and rougher on big rims. I have 23s and there is a huge difference in the quality of smooth riding from the stock rims to the 23s. On the brakes, I have mixed opinions. Yes, it is alot harder to stop, and it takes longer to stop on big rims than factory. But, as far as the brakes wearing out, I am sure that they do; but, I have never had to upgrade my brake system. I am not saying that you must or must not upgrade your brakes, I am just saying that from my personal experience even though the vehicle is harder to stop, my brakes have not worn out any quicker. Adding better brakes is not a bad idea, and I would probably recommend it to be safe, but in my opinion I dont consider it a neccesity, but some would argue that. Hope this is helpful 99 SKALAID 03-10-04, 01:57 PM Yes, the ride is alot bumpier and rougher on big rims. Hope this is helpful i agree my 23's do ride rougher, but come on it is a truck right :) It is still very comfortable not neary enough to say bothersome, after having my 23's i would never go anything smaller. the brakes, i cant tell any difference in stopping power between them and the stockers. big brakes are big $$$$$, just like big rims. it does look good though to see big rotors behind your big rims, but then you have to have at least a 19" rim minumum, so you cant use your stockers when you go up to the snow. :tisk: Fuquan7 03-10-04, 02:00 PM Yes, the ride is alot bumpier and rougher on big rims. Hope this is helpfulI have 22's and The brakes never gave me a problem. The same day I brought my truck I brought them and put them on. I notice the difference when I took them off in the wintertime and put the OEM wheels and tires back on, but it was not a big difference to me. Nothing to really worry about. I am not going to upgrade my brakes unless I get bigger rims(24's) and I have some winter tires and rims that are at least 19 inches for the new brake set up invincible569 03-10-04, 02:44 PM If you were to replace the braking system with Brembo's would you need to make sure you get the right offset for your rims before you buy them? or would they fit anyways if it was 19" and up? Im also about to get some 22-24's. Still undecisive about what to get. I dont want to get it too big, but then I dont want the huge gap. I want everything to sit flush and clean. Since Im not sure, I may just go with some Jordans. Don't quote me on that but the 19" is just for the minimum clearance of the rim not hitting the calipers and larger rotors that come with the kit escalade20002003 03-10-04, 04:18 PM i agree my 23's do ride rougher, but come on it is a truck right http://cadillacforums.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif It is still very comfortable not neary enough to say bothersome, after having my 23's i would never go anything smaller. the brakes, i cant tell any difference in stopping power between them and the stockers. big brakes are big $$$, just like big rims. it does look good though to see big rotors behind your big rims, but then you have to have at least a 19" rim minumum, so you cant use your stockers when you go up to the snow. http://cadillacforums.com/forums/images/smilies/tsk.gif I agree I would not trade my 23s for anything. Except maybe 24s. :) Jungle George 03-10-04, 04:41 PM The ride can be almost the same if you install light-strong cold or roll forged wheels, Like Centerline or Weld Evos', you can go to 24" with little change in ride quality. The same applies to brakes, if the wheels are heavy they impact the braking system tremendously. adrian.levett 08-17-06, 04:18 PM Whats up everyone? I am currently riding on 20" Boss w/ Toyo Proxes ST on a Escalade standard (short dog) but I am going to upgrade within 2 weeks. I am looking at 22" and 24" U2 wheels with either Toyo or Nitto NT. This is my eveyday vehicle. How much modification am i looking at with upgrading to 24" versus 22". I want the Amazing Look but at the least cost without having to lower the truck or upgrade brakes, unless necessary. What about moving of the reservior, is that needed. which tire is better for control on long distances of 2 to 6 hours on occasions. Kappa-Lac 08-17-06, 09:47 PM I think 22's will suit you fine. I have had 3 escalades and all have had 22's except my first which had 20's. There will be some on here that tell you 22's look small....you should go with 24's or 26's. I keep it real....If you don't want to drop $6K+ for wheels and tires, a set of 22's will run you about $2K-$3500.. If you are lucky, you can find a good set of 24's for around $4K. If you drive a 02-06 body style and decide to go with 24's or higher, I would recommend a break upgread (at least a rotor upgrade). Over time stopping distance will decrease. All it takes is that one day when its raining and that little ole' lady in that 72 oldsmobile pulls out in front of you....... you want all of the stoing distance you can get! A good quality cast wheel is just as good with regard to ride quality as Weld Evos, or Centerlines, not to mention the chrome will last longer. The ride quality really matters more on the tire that is selected, not the wheel. negri21 08-18-06, 03:46 PM I had 26" wheels on mine and i never had a problem. and it rode VERY nice. I will need winter rims anyway. LemonTwist 08-18-06, 09:22 PM I will let you know in september when the vehicle finally arrives. ESV on 22's. | |
