: Northstart vs. 5.0

I know that this thread probably belongs in the racing forum but I was curious on what would win this race. A Cadillac with a Northstar(Seville,El Dorado and Deville) versus an early 90's stock 5.0 Mustang. I think the Caddy would pretty easily win but not sure by how much or even if it would win. I'm NOT a street racer but on occasion if someone pulls up beside be and I know they are trying to get ahead of me I'll give them a run for their money. Only raced a few times in my STS car and never lost. Best victory vs newer 330i.

A stock Mustang will turn around a 15.0-15.2. STS's can turn 14.5's. The Caddy should be a little faster.

A 5 speed 5.0 Mustang with a good driver would probably take a Northstar Caddy off the line, but I think the outcome would be quite different on the highway.

The only chance a stock 5.0 fox has is a 5spd from a dig. An SN95 5.0 will lose, period, with the possible exception of the Cobra from a dig.

:yeah: Off the line could be a little trouble, but from a roll on punched from the highway should be an easy win for a Northstar.

I've got your answer: I own a 92 Mustang GT (5.0 of course), modified with 3:55 gears and a few bolt ons, runs mid 14s. I also have a 2006 STS V8. Ran my wife in the caddy, me in the stang, its a dead heat. At very illegal speeds the caddy would pull ahead because of the extra horsepower. From a stop the low weight and high torque of the stang make it jump up quickly.

The only time I've ever fooled with 5.0 Mustangs is on the highway when I'm doing 80 and they come flying up and try to pass me. I agree...pretty much a coin toss from a roll.

Man you are lucky to have a wife that will race a Caddy for you! :worship:

I had a 90 5.0 LX. Stock, just the air silencer removed, and took it to the strip to see how fast it was as I drove it. Speedshifting (since I needed it to commute the next day) it turned 15.2's. The biggest problem with the 5.0's was the terrible heads Ford put on them.

I havn't run a Caddy on the strip but guy's who did reported mid 14's.

ah put yourself in the caddy and it will win, those RWD STS V8 models will do 0-60 in upper 5's if memory serves me right. Quarter mile is a bit better than its front wheel drive sibling. Than again you said your 5.0 has mods so that could be what brings it up.
