We were stopped for a red light on one of the main roads in my town.
A flatbed 18 wheeler did not stop in time and one of his trailer tires blasted our SRX in the right rear. He took out the bumber, tailgate, quarter panel and the back and side glass. Nobody was hurt.

The SRX is 9 days old with 182 miles on the clock. The first payment is due next week.

OUCH.. That sucks, im sorry...!

Any pictures of the wounded...?? Since its so new, maybe they will replace it with a brand new rather having this one fixed.....?

I'll see if i can get some later.

I don't think insurance will replace the car but at least I don't have to worry about used or no-name parts. There aren't any yet. The body shop is going to get everything from the dealer that sold me the car.

When we got home, the mats and cargo liner that I ordered from mats.com were on the front porch waiting for us.

Damn, that sucks! :crying2:

At least you're ok and it wasn't your fault. Keeps us updated on the situation.

Ow! That is awful! So glad nobody was injured. Cars can be fixed alot easier than people. Hope you get your baby back soon!

I feel your pain. With an 18 wheeler you are so lucky that there are no injuries - at least no people injuries. I hope your 'baby' will be fine. Good luck.

Glad you are ok, and I hope they do a quality job fixing it! :)

Actually insurance replacing it may not be all that crazy... If there has been any frame damage, most insurance companies will just total it out. IF...

If they dont total it out make sure to take the car on a pretty agressive test drive when u pick it up from the body shop....if u hear any noise get them to redo it, that is very important

If you still have time I would take a lot of pictures for the record. Also talk "restoration" rather than repair. What a bum deal. I hope the car was leased rather than purchased.

Don't know whether anyone mentioned this or not and I'm not familiar with the new body structure. On the old body-on-frame you could tell if the repair was bad by the way the car "crabbed" down the street. That may hold true with the newer bodies as well. I'd be careful about that.

The car is leased through Smart Buy. Because the miles at the end will be very low, I was hoping to purchase. Now I just hope that it gets repaired well enough. The body shop assures me that it will be as good as new. Somehow I don't think I believe them. It is the best shop in the area, and it was recommended by my Cadillac dealer. I have had plenty of used Cadillacs before, but this is my first new one. My wife and I are heartbroken.

If they are a good body shop, you may be pleasantly surprised at the results. It's amazing what those guys can do these days--most of the time it truly is "as good as new". Keep your chin up. :)

Well, look at it this way. You've rented the use of the car for 36 months (whatever) and then you can walk away from it. By that time Cadillac will have further developed the SUV and you can get another. Buck up! :)

Here is a picture of the damage. It's going to be about $6000 to fix.

OUCH! It hurts me just looking at it. Hope you get it fixed and back on the road asap, or at least get a cool rental. I didn't know they made plastic wrap specifically for crashes. "Crash Wrap" lol.

The $6000 estimate is not close to what it will finally cost. Many of the prices for parts are not yet available to the estimators.

Repair parts are not easy to get for SRX's. This is the 4th one that has been in an accident in my part of Connecticut. Some of them are still waiting for parts. They told me two weeks minimum for delivery.

I rented a GMC Envoy. NOOO comparison. I may exchange it for something else.

I feel your pain. My wife and I would be heartbroken. I know it's difficult to be thankful that you guys were not injured, when your brand new Caddy was damaged so badly, but 'ya know it coulda been worse. Be hopeful, they may just do a great job repairing it, and you may be so satisfied that you do decide to buy it later on. You know in a way it's good you leased it. It's THEIR car that they are fixing! Last April when I drove home my new Town Car Limited I was so scared, so timid in driving her, that I almost messed up! I guess it's always worse when it's brandy new. Have faith.

When i saw the first pic I thought, "not too bad."
When i saw the second pic i realized the rear quarter had been tweaked by the back door.

I always hate to see a rear quarter damaged, because it is not like a fender or a door where you replace it and paint it and it is hard to tell if there was an accident.

Here is a pic of damage to my Camaro's rear quarter. $830 for this because there is no place for them to stop painting. Roof has to be painted as does the left quarter.

So $6,000 doesn't seem unreasonable.

Well, it took 6 weeks and $13,000 to fix, but I finally got it back today.

The body shop gets an A+. The paint work is perfect, and the body panels line up perfectly. Getting parts from Cadillac was ridiculous. There just aren't many available. The hardest part to get was the XM reciever. It's located in the right rear quarter panel and was crushed. I'm waiting for it to be activated now.

It felt like picking up a new car. I drove it around a little, now there's almost 300 miles on it.
