Since I'm not talking about the permanently-mounted kind, I realize this may not belong in this thread. But hey, I'm a moderator, so humor me here.

I'm looking into buying a portable DVD player. It would be primarily for personal use on a treadmill, but it would likely see a lot of action in the car on long trips, so I guess it could qualify as ICE (in-car entertainment).

Following are links to three I've found on Amazon. I've shopped the prices, and they seem to have the best connections. I like the looks of the Toshiba the best, but it's a little pricey. I'm probably going with the Magnavox.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Amazon is one of the better sites to comparison shop and check out what people that have bought one think about it. I shopped around before Xmas for one and ended up buying 2 of the 5" APEX PD450's at Wal-Mart.com for $140 each. After reading the reviews on several at Amazon. I noticed that quite a few people ended with a lemon... So I ended up getting a 3 year extension on the warranty thru Wal-Mart.com for another $16 ea.

I probably would have gone for the 7" if I was only buying one. But I figured my 2 kids would be happier if they didn't have to share. As far as this thread qualifing for "in-car entertainment"... It works out great that both of my kids in-car entertainment systems plug in nicely to the cig-lighters located in the rear doors of my 2000 Deville. :lildevil:

Wednesday night I placed the order:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005OP2T/qid=1079321993/br=1-6/ref=br_lf_etk_ce_av__6//104-1207420-5228726?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172521

It should be in by the middle of next week.

It arrived today!

I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but from what I've seen, these things are here to stay.

This particular model didn't come with a car adapter. They want about $50 for the Panasonic version. I'd be afraid to use my Radio Shack adapter since I paid so dang much for this unit. I may go the power inverter route.

There's no case, either. But I have a lot of old laptop cases laying around, so I knew that wouldn't be a problem.

The screen is very clear, even at about a 60 degree angle. This would be great in a car, or for two people to share on a plane trip.
