A new OEM compressor is probably in the $4-500 range. Aftermarket rebuilds around $200. Which is the least of the job. You'll need to flush the system, all lines, condensor and evaporator. You'll also need to install a new accumulator at about $60-80.00. All said with an aftermarket comp you be looking at about $500 in parts, $7-800 for OEM new comp.

The only special tool needed is a vacume pump to draw the system down before charging, rather expensive. There are some cheap ones available that run from air if you have a decent sized air compressor. Of course you could do the mechanical work and take it too someone to charge.
