I am contemplating some backroads driving that might result in getting stuck off the road several hundred miles from a tow truck.

I have never owned or used a motorized or manual winch.

Can anyone reply with the basics, including the approximate cost?

I can't think of a place to mount one on an SRX w/out also installing some sort of heavy duty push bar as well. I Had one on a Tahoe. I Never used it.

I have tow straps and the tow hook for my SRX - though I realize this does not help if other vehicles are not around.
