We tear apart a 07 Caddy CTS-V and look at the difference between the Ls2 sprocket and cam in the 07 vs an 05 LS2 or a Ls1/6 car. Bit of a surprise though we got it all figured out.
Here are the pics:

The gear with holes is an 04-05 and the one w/out holes is a 06-07? So what should i think about the different parts? Does that make a difference? all i see is a lot of parts, which i don't mind if i took it apart =)

I see the same thing.. So what does this mean.. Is it better or worse than the older setup. Please explain further.

The old one looks like a better part to me. The holes on the outer edge reduce rotational inertia.

Unless you're a drag racer :P

Do you mean 06 LS2?

Looks to me that the solid one has balancing areas close to the outside. Probably to balance the camshaft? Unless the back sides are cored out in which case it would be just to strengthen the gear. Also has single bolt vs 3, can't see too much but probably the single bolt attaches and the gear fits over the shaft rather than just at the end of it on the older version.

Well 05 gto's had the ls2's apperently its a new thing across the board with all 07 LS2's. Gm's terms are this "Pre Cam Phaser Inmplemetation of the new CMP location timmer code" We call it funny, The single Bolt is more like a Mustang Motor thats what they look like, good or bad meh both ways get the job done we prefer the 3 bolt old style, even the Ls7 sprocket has the 3 holes. The ls7 chain and sprocket do swap onto the 07Ls2's though :)

Sounds to me like they're getting ready to add VVT to the LS2 like they did with the L92 in the '07 Escalade.

Eeeenteresting.....
