Congrats! I took a similar picture when my first car, a '66 Chevrolet Chevelle, hit 100K. Good luck on the next 100K!

3.1L V6--a decent engine, and was used in a LOT of GM vehicles.

We've only had one car hit a milestone like that, our '93 Fleetwood when it crossed 100k. Would have had a picture, but it was one very rare occasion when my mother had borrowed it and it was her who crossed 100000 on the highway. The Roadmaster is only a few thousand short of 200k, though, so I am making sure someone DEFINATELY gets a pic of that one:thumbsup:

Dope: Have you guys had many problems with that Malibu? I only ask because I know they're usually pretty good, but the 3.1/3.4 GM engines have some head gasket and other minor issues, and the car itself also did have some quality bugs at least in the earlier model years.

I don't believe it's the headgasket that is the problem gasket on the 3.1/3.4's. It's the intake gaskets. At the Chevy dealer I work at, we've done many intake Gaskets on 3.4's since I started there in July.

You are correct, the 3.8s had it too. It is were the EGR pipe goes thourgh the intake, it heats it up there and kills the gasket and can hurt the intake. I know there is a fix for the 3.8, not sure on the smaller brotheren.
The 3.1 and 3.4 are very good motors, as the get old they get noisey. It is usually the lifters, they gum up, you can clean 'em up or replace them.
I did it for my father when his hit 130,000 and he now has 190,000 on with normal maint.
The longest I have driven a car was my 1991 S-10 Blazer 270,000 miles not a valve cover removed. The guy I sold it to, still drives it. 340,000 miles...

The 3.1 (I'm not sure if the 3.4 has this too) has a piston slap issue when cold. When GM designed them, they wanted short skirts (who doesn't really?) so the engine would build revs faster and smoother. But the lack of mass made the piston rattle back and forth in the cylinder when the engine is cold, but after it warms up, the sound dies off. My dad's '97 Lumina with the 3.1 has that issue, and he brought it to a dealer back in '98 (the same one I work at oddly enough) and the solution was to have the pistons replaced with new ones. They did that but the problem still exists.

What motor in that '91 S-10 Blazer? Would that still be the 2.8 or was the 4.3 in there by that point?

I drove the car for four years, 67,000 miles and didn't have any other problem with it, this despite accidentally putting it in Drive at 4,500 RPM and leaving about a quarter mile streak of my Goodyears on the road (I seriously expected to see transmission parts flying out from under the car).

When my ex-wife's Saturn turned into a lemon, we bought an '03 Malibu and put 45,000 miles on it without a glitch. My Mom's 2000 Buick Century also has the 3.1, and she has more than 100,000 miles on it with no major issues that I know of.

I know a lot of people (not necessarily around here) like to bash GM's quality, but other than some obvious examples from the late 70s and early 80s (Olds Diesel, V-8-6-4, HT-4100), I've always thought powertrains were one of GM's strong points.

Aw yes the shirt skirt, good times on cars and women, but they can be noisey...
The Blazer, the best V-6 ever made...the 4.3.

My 89 4.5 STS is well over 200k and my 93 Brougham is getting ready to roll to 200k. I like to get 300k out of a car.

LOL! I have a friend who had a '91 Corsica with the 2.2L I-4 has his first car...man that thing was a POS. We could not get that thing to spin the tires, even in rain! It made my dad's 91 Mazda 626 seem like a friggin Northstar Eldorado! I forget what killed that motor but he junked it and took that money and bought a '91 Eagle Talon TSi. He seems to have a penchant for buying POS cars..

I've heard that Corsicas and Berettas, for whatever reason, can take neutral drops like nothing else.

The only problem I have/had is that the ABS light comes on for no reason at random moments. No idea why and no one has been able to fix it. That and the CD player is kinda shot. It skips badly on CD's that are perfectly fine on the later tracks, usually after track 8. The car currently reads 100,360. You get an idea of how many miles I put on it in such a short time. Still car drives great, the 3.1 in that car is quite a monster.
