Well the title says most of it. But here are the details.

I have a 4.9 from a 93 Eldorado in my Fiero. It is hooked to a 5spd transaxle. Unfortunately due to the size of the 4.9 starter I have to cut a hole in my trans bellhousuing every time I change to a new trans. News just broke on the Cadero list. (Cadero + Fiero+Caddy) That the Allante's smaller gear reduction starter can be used on the 4.9 and it has a much smaller nose cone. So not only do you get a starter that spins the engine better you don't have to cut a new trans up every time you chunk the gears in the old one.

I have been trying to locate a starter and the local parts houses either don't have one, or the one they say to use is the wrong one. (the non gear reduction unit)

Any input or suggestions on where to find one please let me know.

Just thought I would bring this back to the top. I too would like to know the year make and model for that starter. So often the parts people up here won't even open up the first book with out this info or I guest go to the first computer screen. I just love in when I tell them I want a certain part and they ask whats it in, year make and model. "Well it is a four speed auto out of a Pontiac 6000 and it is bolted to a 4.5 litre Cadillac thats in the rear of a 88 Pontiac Fiero. Oh sorry that was last year, this year it is a 85 fiero 5 speed standard bolted to a 4.9 litre Cadillac but its still the same 88 Fiero, and if it makes a difference it has a 91 V6 Cavalier clutch.":shhh:

FWIK, Allantes were produced from 1987 through 1993. 87-92 had an HT4XXX engine and 1993 came with a Nothstar engine. So I suppose that any model year 87-92 starter might be what you're looking for.

Maybe someone who knows more about Allantes can chime in to confirm this. And, isn't there Alante-specific forum on cadillacforums? Maybe you could post this question there.

Sometimes even I get sick of acronyms.
Here is a good site explaining them: http://www.martin-stricker.de/abk.html

Hmm, this is going a bit OT, but if you don't like to use them then how come you've used "WTF" in your original question? :p
