I've got the stock 16" wheels and before I get rims to make me all shiney I wanna go bigger. I'm looking towards 18" as I hear 20" may cause a bit of problems. My question is if I go up to 18", does that also mean I need to have 18" tires and wheels? May be quite an ignorant question, but I just wanna make sure.

If you want the tires to fit...then yes you will need bigger tires that will fit an 18" rim..................the 16" tire is two inches smaller........wont fit

Yeah if you buy 18" rims you need tires that will fot 18" rims. Don't know what you heard about 20's but I've had mine on for a yr and a half w/ZERO issues.

i understand that you have to change out the tires, but what about the wheels? i've heard with the 20's that you have a slightly longer turn radius and a slight decrease in hp. besides, i don't quite have the money for 20s right now =]

If you want bigger rims, then yes you'll need bigger wheels. Rims are wheels.

About the tires, just picture it in your head. A 12" pizza wont fit in a 10" pizza pan. An 18" wheel won't fit in a 16" tire.

OK maybe this will help you out.

Your stock tires and are 16". Your stock tires fits a 16" rim. For arguement sake we will say that the overall tire diameter is 26" tall.(From the top of the tire to the bottom(ground).

When you purchase 18" rims your obviously going to need tires that fit 18" rims. Your still going to want to get a tire that has an overall tire diameter of 26". Just because you increased the rims by 2" does not mean that the tires height gets increased by 2". You decrease the side of the sidewall on the tire.

I believe that you will need 245/40/18's could be a 245/45/18.

Those rims look nice..I got a questions what do these numbers mean:245/45/18 I can see that the 18 how many inches the rim is but whats the 245 and 45 stand for..how wide the rim is ?

I got another questions after looking at this custom wheels website I found these rims that I like and there is a packags w/tires for $1200.. however when i got to quantity it only shows 1 but the rim by it self only cost $200..so it must mean 4 wheels and tires right for 1200 right? any1 buy off this web site before?

It may add to this thread to know that there was a time that wheels, rims, and tires were three separate pieces. The wheel included the spokes, was semi-permanent with the car and was often made of wood. The tire was mounted on a rim that looked much like a bicycle wheel with no spokes or hub and bolted up on the outside of the wheel. The disk wheel that appeared in the 1920's was a major breakthrough. You still find the three piece setup on heavy equipment and off-road constructon trucks. Ask a real old-time trucker what it meant when Budd wheels came along.
