: What should Low's next car be?

Well, im getting rid of my Deville (for the second time) and also my Ducati. yes, sadly i am getting rid of her. she is going to be bought by a friend of mine (Darren). he was in a wreck last year and totaled his bike and is giving me the pay off (which is around 11k right now). with the money ill be saving each month from insurance (on both) and the payment on the Duc, i am going to pay off the last of my credit cards (which is now down to around 3,6k). hopefully these will be paid off by summer, so i will have the money to then get another car. my dream car has always been the Corvette. i am looking at getting a 2003 Z06. Darren is going monday to get the loan (if he gets it). now, nothing is set in stone and i am open to opinions on other vehicles. i thought V but i have two four door cars and would really like a sport car. so name some other sport cars... or should i get another lowrider? well get one i can build that is...

didnt know you had a ducatti , the worlds best sounding bike ....absolutely love them ....

go corvette or go home .....If it aint a Caddy , it beatter be a vette .....or at least thats how i am .....I grew up with dads 73 , i look at it every day sitting in the garage ....there is nothing like the feel of a vette ....

so stick your ass in fiberglass , and youll be a happy man ....

I don't really like Vette's but I do have a book called 'Corvette 50 Years' if anyone is interested.

Personally I would by a V but that because I want one bad. Sports car? What's the budget. The BMW M coupe is pretty sweet. I'm a big fan of the MB SL600 or even the SL500. Pontiac has that new little roadster out. That things pretty cool.

It's all personal taste I guess. I would also like to buy Cadillac Attack but it's not in my budget this year.

It sounds like you have plenty of time to look around and you're on the right track:

C5 Vette: Great comfort, handling, and plenty of power, even in non Z-06 units. The 6-speed is great and 2001 and later units are best. Remember that the Z-06 units are fixed roof coupes - no open air driving which is one of the great Corvette experiences. Prices are reasonable and will continue to drop.

C4: A lot of very good car for the money. Some folks love the styling, some folks hate it. One of the more challenging vettes to enter and exit due to the wide door sills and low floor. Prices are continuing to drop, but starting to bottom out.

C3: IMO, the best looking vettes ever made. Stock, they don't drive as smoothly as C4s or C5s, but my 81 turns far more heads than my 02 ever did. Being 25 to nearly 40 years old, there's plenty to go wrong, but the car's can be worked on by persons who don't have an EE degree. Prices of high quality 68-73 chrome bumper cars are in the range of a new CTS and higher. However, some chrome bumper, small block drivers can still be had for under $20K. 76-82 rubber bumper cars are reasonable with excellent low-mileage cars at $12-15K and good drivers below $10K. Prices have probably hit bottom and are headed up slowly.

Allante: My wife loves this car and thinks I should buy one: 2 passenger, vert, and Cadillac class. Not a lot of them around. If I wasn't so happy with my current vette, I'd consider a 93.

Buick Reatta: FWD 2-passenger coupe from the late 80s - early 90s. Unique looks that you love or hate. Not a performance car.

Mid-late 90s Buick Riviera: FWD coupe with a back seat. Supercharged 3.8 in some. Classy looks and nice interior. Very nice units available for under $10K.

I really want a mustang SVT but i don't like it because i can't drive a manual, so maybe you might like the SVT. Nissan 350Z, infiniti G35 or a GTO are nice cars too.

and if you find the vette isnt a good fit , and you need something to bring the christmas tree home in (not much more tho , payload sucks)..the result of a few buick engineers with nothing beatter to do and no G bodys to terrorize the public with ...

How about a used Porsche Boxster or MB SLK Class? I'd suggest a convertible if you want something different from the 4-doors, I love my 911 and I've decided that I'm keeping it. The thrill of letting the top down and just cruising in unbeatable in my opinion.

How about a Corvette coupe or convertible, the Z06's are nice but the insurance is premium and you can't let the top down. And of course they'll cost more than a base 'Vette coupe.

Just my suggestions though...

Some may not agree with this, but how about an E46 M3? An 02-03 used M3 is about the same price as a used '03 Z06.

If you buy a relatively new performance vehicle, make sure you get some kind of warranty on it as well. A BMW can be a nice car, but if something breaks it isn't going to be cheap to get fixed coming out of your pocket.

Have you driven a V lowlow?

Late model Eldorado? Used XLR?

I like the Corvette idea, but used XLRs are pretty cheap.

I'll second the M3 and the Buick GN. I love both of those.

Not sure what your budget allows, there, LowLow, but a few ideas might be:

Ford GT, Ford Shelby 500 Convertible, Ford Mustang GT convertible
Pontiac Solstice, Dodge Viper, or a Jaguar XJR convertible. These of course, are assuming you don't go with the Corvette.

I'd love to see a Yugo as a low rider--you up for that one??:histeric:

What's a '03 Vette gonna cost ya? I suppose an '04 XLR would be about the same. Food for thought....

If I was gonna get a sports car on your budget, I'd be looking at several cars. These come to mind..

1995-99 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4
1990-96 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo
1993-97 Pontiac Trans Am
1991-92 Pontiac Trans Am GTA
2003-05 Subaru WRX STi
2000-04 BMW M5
E39 M5
1999-05 (996) 911
1989-02 SL500/600

There are others too, but I can't think of em now..

Check Ebay for XLR's their range used is about $20,000 on up. Just be careful of some coz while I was bidding around down there I have sniffed out some frauds. Vettes go for cheap on there too.

Here's one I found: Bid right now is at 10,100.00 (its coz I was playing around with it) These guys will customize and build your brand new 2007 XLR-V... Reserve is not met at the moment and my highest bid is $15,000.

Well if you're pocketbook is ample enough to accomodate an '03 Z06, why not check out a G35 Coupe? If I had that kind of money, that would be #1 on my list. But it's kinda hard to even think about comparing a Z06 and a G35...two totally differnt types of cars..

Adam
11-25-06, 02:30 PM
damn... a lot of good suggestions. never thought of a Porshe. well my range is between 25-35k. now i have three paying jobs (1 i work twice a year at the race track which i clear 2k a year) so im good and it wont be much of a stretch for me. i just want to get these bills paid off for credit purposes, cause my credit is good but low. my last score was 625 iirc. i can just barely get a loan for anything right now because only a few have been paid off.

if i got a C4 it would have to be a ZR-1. i like the C4 body styling but i like the suttle difference in the tailights and the rear end... makes the car look better imo.

no V. i have a CTS and a Fleetwood... so i am getting a two door. i am gonna test drive a few cars this weekend and see what i like and help with my decision.

not a bimmer fan really. yes i have driven a V before! my friends dad (Rick) has one. modded to boot. on occasion he lets me drive it. i talked him out of an M5 (haha) and into a V. i told him with all the money he would be saving he could mod the hell out of the V. he agreed. so every now and then i get to drive it.

11-25-06, 02:40 PM
Here's some food for thought....

Mark VIII. You can mod the hell out of those Intechs and be in the 12's and 13's. They're a two door like you want, but no where near as sporty as some of the other cars listed..

Adam
11-25-06, 02:43 PM
yeah i really want sport car. i had a 95 Lincoln Continental and i hated the thing. reliabilty was a non issue because... well it didnt have any! always breaking down. so that did it for me on 90s Lincolns (save for Town Cars). so, Vette, Porshe, 90s SL500... keep em coming!

I~LUV~Caddys8792
11-25-06, 02:46 PM
Hmmm, that's odd. You must have got a lemon because today I've been reading owner reviews of the '95-97 Continentals and about 90% of them say "this car is super reliable, no problems" etc etc...

Well then...would a '03+ SL be in the ~30k price range? I don't know what they're going for nowadays.... Otherwise maybe some sort of AMG car... CLK55, CL55... Mmmmm sounds good!

Side note, I forget Adam, besides the hospital, where do you work?

Yeah, an LS2 in a FWD Northstar deville, right! And my 4.9 is underrated, it's not 200hp, it's really 375..does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 167.... Right...

But speaking of hot rod deVilles, Adam, how about a 472/500 in a '83 Coupe deVille?! That would be just what you're looking for! A high performance coupe! And, you can mod the suspension so it handles like a Trans Am!

That would be the ultimate sleeper!

My uncles always had Corvettes, in my time, he's owned a red '99 Convertible, and he just traded that off this spring for a maroon '06 Convertible, and back in the early '70s, when he was around 22-23 (your age) he had a '67 Stingray with the 396 I do believe. I grew up in a Chevy/GM family, but I never really liked Corvettes though.. just never did anything for me. There are a few exceptions though.. like the 84-89 C5's have the coolest digital dashboard ever, and the C6 Z06 is just awesome, 69 Stingray, 67 Stingray, etc etc..
