I am a PROUD owner of a 85 deville that has the 4.1 FWD

Problem is that it keeps blowing an injector fuse. I had it diagnosed and they said the computer was causing this. I wanted to know before I blow the 76 bucks on a new one is this possibly the cause? Would a computer cause your injector fuse to blow? If so why ?

Any cheaper alternatives I can try first.

Reason why I asked here first is that I don't believe the guy due to the fact he wanted to chare me over 600 bucks to change the computer.

I'd first suspect a short. Check the injector wiring harness and look for a chaffed or burnt wire somewhere.

The FSM says to crank the engine and note the SERVICE NOW and SERVICE SOON telltales. Report back here whether both, one, or neither stays lit during cranking.

Also check for trouble codes. OFF and WARMER simultaneously on climate control with key on.

Code F48 Thats due to there being a hole in the condenser.

Both the service lights stay lit while cranking.

The wiring for the injectors passes under the air filter adaptor thru a notch in the throttle body. Inspect that area very carefully for a pinched/bare wire. I've seen that adaptor not reinstalled correctly and pinch the harness. There should be a rubber plug on the harness that locates the wires into the throttle body and a thick paper gasket surrounding the throttle body to provide clearance. The gasket has glue on one side to secure it in place.

The injector itself could have a shorted winding too. I don't recall the correct resistance - maybe someone with an FSM handy can look it up. Check the obvious...

ok checked for bare wires but there was none. I still can plug a higher amp fuse in and it wont blow, but it still runs like a turd and gets about 5 MPG

I agree with Peteski. Measure the resistance of the injector. It should be 15-17 Ohm on 4.9 engine. Yours is probably in the same ballpark.

14 ohms on both

MIGHT b enormal for 4.1. Someone will chime in with more specific info.

Sorry, I forgot I had chimed in on this post. The FSM indicates that a fuse blowing on the injector circuit is caused by a short-to-ground, which spikes the injector voltage above 2V sustained. Your resistance on the injector is in spec, so you need to retrace wires. One injector has a blue wire that runs to the ECM, and a red wire that goes to the relay center where the 3A fuse is located. The other injector wires are green to ECM, white to relay center. You'll find the short somewhere along one of those paths. It's a tedious process, and shorts are always frustrating to find. Watch for brittle or broken sheathing anywhere along these wires.

OK thankjs, got all weekend to work this out. hopefully I find it.

after searching for a short or brittle wire and not finding one i did go ahead and buy the main computer. Note there is 2 computers I bought 1226462 and it solved all problems except for the air conditioning which is a condenser hole

I forgot to thank those of you that took the time to try and help me solve the situation. Thank you very much

Glad you found the solution. A new ECM would have been the last option on the list because they rarely fail, but whatever does the trick is good.
