This is a newbie question and I think I know the answer already but I wanted to ask anyway. I recently purchased my '83 and so far I only have a few problems. (I'm just waiting for the re-built HT4100 engine to go nuclear, hopefully not for many years.) The problem I'm having now is that after having a new stereo system installed, the very next day, the blower fan stopped working for the heater and AC. The day after, it worked fine, poor timing as I was trying to demonstrate the problem to the shopmaster at the stereo store. So it worked, great! The next day it didn't work, I jiggled some wires under the dash and it worked again! I took it back to the shop and after futzing around (with me watching!) he couldn't figure it out. It worked just fine again. Now it won't do anything.

You can hear the air dams moving around to shift the airflow output (heat on the floor to cool/outside air up top) and I'm pretty sure I can feel the compressor turning on when I switch into Automatic mode on the climate control system. Turning on the defrost or switching to Economy mode makes no difference.

I know there is a power module under the hood, near the firewall on the passenger's side. I've heard that sometimes those modules go bad or that a capacitor needs replacing. The module looks like it was replaced before and may have been used prior to that.

If anyone has any idea, does it seem like that power module would indeed be the first place to check? I was told (by the dealership...shudder...) that to check and replace that capicitor (if needed) would cost about $200. What do you think? I appreciate any feedback...

It sure sounds like the power module. However, I'd check that thick orange/beige colerd wire for a good connection to that tab on the blower motor. Also, with the fan in the on position, key on, touch that same wire to a ground. If the fan comes on, it's the module. It's a common problem. You might try a boneyard to pick up a used one. Of course plug it in first to see if she works. Let me know what happens and good luck!:coolgleam
