Well, the steering column in my '79 Coupe DeVille has some play in the tilt mechanism. Not huge, but enough to irritate me.
I've been told it's a real mayor PITA to fix.....

So now I've found a guy who just bought a relatively nice '80 CDV and he plans on using it for banger racing!!!

What a shame, the car was imported from Canada many years ago, never registered here in the Netherlands, and the previous owners just lost the title & import documents. So in the end they just sold it to a bangerracer!!! :want: :thepan:

At least I've already got the nice dashpad and RH armrest from him (mine were ugly) for a reasonable price.:)
Now the steering column in the '80 CDV feels much better and tighter than mine.

So what I'd like to now is if both columns interchange mechanically and electronically. Is it a plug-and-play kind of situation or do I need to modify a lot of wiring?

See I don't want to remove my column, drive 400 miles, pay money, only to find it doesn't work anymore.:bigroll:

Who can help me on this one?

Thanks!!!!!:worship:

The thing that would be a sticky point would be the ignition switch. If they both have the same color wires in the same positions then you are probably in business. If not the fun begins. I swapped an 85 Fleetwood column into an 80 CDV and it had totally different ignition switch wiring. Fortunately the chassis wiring plugs can be de-pinned easily allowing things to be moved. 80 might have used the same setup as older cars since it's different than 85.
If you land up with an extra jackshaft (the shaft which runs from the column to the steering box) I'm looking for one. The rag joint wears out causing steering slop. I've only seen this once and it was on a 1980 car with documented low miles. Really strange failure. Anyway I need one. Send a private message if you have a spare to sell.
