I ordered this little bugger 4 months ago , back when carosel one relesed the info that they were indeed coming out with a Diecast Model of the 1968 Wedge Turbine. If you know the Indy 500 , then this car you know has many storys surrounding it.
It was powered by a pratt and whitney tubrine engine from a helecopter. The power was fed thru all four wheels (AWD). The cars were wickedly fast all throught the month of may that year. They sat on the pole and ran 192 of 200 laps out front ....What happend at lap 192 ? The last of the 4 turbines that showed up that may died.
Imgine , haveing the fastest car in the 500 , the fastest car all month ...and have the car break just 8 laps from the sweet milk of victory lane.....
Talk to anyone that lived and was at indy dureing that time , and they all have a story about "the vaccum cleaners". Peoples first reaction to them was the lack of noise , from the stands all you could hear was the whoosh of the tires as they scremed by. The storys of the end read like something fromt he x files , theres at least 4 storys about what happend to the cars , from sabotage by lotus , to other conspracy theroys .....
A great car ....
