Destroyer 11-20-06, 09:12 PM ...............or should i just stick in a 5.7?Yes:thumbsup: lochenjons 11-20-06, 09:13 PM Yes:thumbsup: now that i think about it, definately I~LUV~Caddys8792 11-21-06, 12:15 AM 4.9 won't go in a RWD application. Atleast not easily. I should remember, I made a thread about this a while back. N0DIH 11-21-06, 08:44 AM You can do a 4.9L, but you will need a 4L60 or 700R4 from a 2.8L/3.1L S10 pickup 2WD or the like. That has the correct engine to trans bolt pattern. 5.7L is an easier swap me thinks... Me thinks I do.... And you might need custom engine mounts with the 4.9L, as they won't be in the correct locations (if at all) brougham 11-21-06, 07:00 PM Well since it has a 4.1 engine the transmission and the mounts should be the same unless they changed something with the different engines. But if youre going to bother changing the engine you might aswell use something better then that. I think the biggest problem is that the fuel injection for the 4.9L cars is different then what the 4.1 is. davesdeville 11-21-06, 07:18 PM 8.2. N0DIH 11-21-06, 07:49 PM IIRC there were NO THM200 4R's with the FWD bolt pattern. So to put a 4.9L in, you MUST change to a FWD bolt pattern transmission, which all 2.8L, 3.1L and 3.4L V6's have. So you take the 4L60/4L60E/700 R4 that you choose, rebuild it to Corvette specs, toss in a 2.8L converter and enjoy. The 4.9L's do not have RWD motor mount positions, they didn't need them, so they didn't cast them in (I have been under my 4.9L a few times, never saw them). They used the mounts off the front cover I believe. I personally have not seen a 4.1L RWD, but I do remember reading that there was a RWD and FWD block. Not sure what the changes are. Could be mounts, will be trans pattern, could be both.... | |
