For those of you who don't have a chance to do this, here's my video of me and my caddy, zero to top speed. Caddy is loaded with three people including me and subwoofers in the trunk along with 12 gallons of gas, on an empty straight road.

Very nice!!! That video is great, you even displayed the engine rpms. You are getting points for that.

Top speed.... Fuel off :p

Lol, at just over 110 mph... Darn, that's got to suck.. Glad I don't have that problem :)

I don't seem to have that problem? Whats my 1997 STS's cut off?

That's awesome. I always wondered what that message looked like.

Depends on the tires it came from the factory with. Check the speed rating on the door jam (Z, W, H).

It says Z. I've had the car at 200 km/h, but it soundded like the doors were going to rip off from the windnoise, so I backed off.

Kool vid but that top speed sux. I remember my moms 95 3.4L Chevy lumina cut off like that at 110mph. I cruise at 100-140mph all the time here in Italy. Been well past that speed too. My Mustang/SHO/Fiat Coupe all don't even have to try to get to that speed.

You lucked out. The "Z" rated cars are hard to come by. They top out around 150MPH. The "H" rated cars (like mine) top out around 130MPH. The "S" rated cars top out around 112MPH.

Yeah sucks that them S-Rated caddys don't even reach WOT 4th and run all the way to "top speed" in 3rd.

Still a sweet vid. Although I've decided the 3.11 gears are too steep for these cars, just like the 3.08s in my Mark VIII.

My '66 Corvair with a 396 in the back seat topped out at 7500RPM in fourth gear; 175MPH.

Sad that they have to be limited at 112, but sweet video nonetheless!

The whole S rated thing...I've come to accept it because I have only been up there twice. That's it. Even if I had a Z rated car, I still would probably not go past 112 (its pretty scary for me, for the car falling apart, and the police!). Not bashing anyone with a car rated for a higher speed, but it just I never see any cars around me that are doing more than 90 mph.

Great video thanks !
What Enzo Ferrari said about the speed :
It's not about how fast you go, it's about how you go fast

If you listen, you can hear the tires howl off the line. Cool .

As Dale Earnhardt said about restrictor plates; "If you don't want to go fast, find another line of work".

Anyone else find it weird to have a 3,800 lb monster going at 130 mph? :D

I'd be terrified to do more than 110 in a couch like that....
I've done *almost* 260km in my RX7, and that gets a little squirrely past 180...
Of course, I've never driven a deville so I can't say for sure.....

It feels rock solid and has PLENTY more when the computer shuts off the fun @ 130. :(

To be honest, for such a big car, its more stable than alot of smaller cars, probably something to do with the auto leveling suspension? Keeps it balanced on all fours I guess.

Oh the DTS is great at any speed. It feels the same at 130 as it does at 30. It's truly amazing.

I hit my 150 limiter the other day. Holy crap. The difference between 130 mph and 150 is just a tad bit hairy. I guess its the 120,000 miles on the original struts.

There is no 150 MPH limiter.

Z-rated do not have a limiter--it's the car's aerodynamics that cause such drag that is impossible to overcome even with all the horses under the hood that determine top-speed for the L37.

The limiter they're talking about is the fuel cut-off which is either 112 or 130/135 depending on S or H tires. I've had mine up to as-fast as I can handle without fear of going to jail if I got caught, and the wind-noise... wow...

The sound reminds me of being in the flightdeck and lowering the landing gear (nose gear right under the flightdeck).

Passing I've gone up to like 115-125. One time I got up to almost 130 and had to back off. So I've never seen my limiter.

Awesome video. Was that a WOT? I noticed it did not shift as high as 6000 RPM. Nice sound too--what kind of mufflers?

THe base Northstar likes to shift earlier i've noticed, depending on standing start or rolling I've seen mine top out at 6,000 and change or just before it, in any event second gear usually starts right down into where the northstar pulls the strongest (3400rpms). In the video you can see how quickly it flys threw second (and how quickly its starts gaining speed when 1st strikes ~2000 rpms and then after that its soars to redline. How many cars with 120,000 miles will take that abuse over and over :P
