IN THE BACK OF A PONTIAC by J ARNELL In a sixty-two Pontiac Bonneville Two young lovers went ridin´ up the hill They went hidin´ from the rest of the world Same old story ´bout boy meets girl She had found the one that she´d been dreamin´ of They made love that night under stars above In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac She got pregnant that night and first she cried But Johnny kneeled and she became his bride Then them nine months went by in a wink of an eye And two weeks early they heard the first cry They were speedin´ down the highway but too late She gave birth to a baby girl who would not wait In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac solo Well she grew up gracefully and in her teens She was a full grown beauty by all means Every weekend she borrowed the car Loaded with friends they were ridin´ far They were goin´ ´ round and makin´ some noise She was just havin´ fun and kissin´ the boys In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac solo On a Sunday mornin´ on their way back home On a windin´ road came a Fleetwood Brougham Way too fast around a bend They screamed out loud as they saw the end The radio was playin´ the Man in black Then it all went quite there in the back of the Pontiac Well it all went so fast she felt no pain As she died that night in the cold and drivin´ rain In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac In the back of a Pontiac Well despites that i "cut and pasted" the lyrics, it took so long that now am i listening to a song named "24 - 7" with the same group. It's a song, basically, about a brother's love. One brother is a cop, the other is a criminal, so it's an internal battle for the cop between his family and his job. My name is Joe Roberts, I work for the state I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville, barracks number eight I always done an honest job, as honest as I could I got a brother named Frankie, and Frankie ain't no good Now, ever since we was young kids, it's been the same come down I get a call on the shortwave, Frankie's in trouble downtown Well, if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away But when it's your brother, sometimes you look the other way Yeah, me and Frankie, laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family, well he just ain't no good Well Frankie went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife But them wheat prices kept on droppin' Till it was like we were gettin' robbed Frankie came home in '68 and me, I took this job Yeah, we're laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line Man turns his back on his family, he ain't no friend of mine The night was like any other, I got a call 'bout quarter to nine There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad, bleedin' hard from his head There was a girl cryin' at a table, it was Frank, they said Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights I must have drove 110 through Michigan county that night It was out at the crossroads down 'round Willow Bank Seen a Buick with Ohio plates, behind the wheel was Frank Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said "Canadian border 5 miles from here" I pulled over to the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear Me and Frankie, laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin', like any brother would Man turns his back on his family, well he just ain't no good gothicaleigh 12-03-06, 08:44 PM Depeche Mode - Master and Servant danbuc 12-03-06, 08:47 PM "She Blinded me with Science" by Thomas Dolby.
