Ah ok thanks! According to Wikipedia, it came out in '69. Originally offered to Aretha Franklin who turned it down.

And who would have thought a 19 year old would like "son of a preacher man"? We don't all listen to KORN and Ludacris! :)

Chad, you need to get the album, Dusty in Memphis from 1969. It is her masterpiece. Fan-bloody-tastic. You'll thank me later.

Aretha did record it later; I have it on her 4-disc CD Queen of Soul. Love both versions, but for sexy, sultry singing, you can't top Dusty Springfield.

"Silver Thunderbird" from Marc Cohn's debut album. Lyrics from the chorus:

Don't you give me no Buick.
Son, you can take my word.
If there's a God in Heaven,
He's got a silver Thunderbird.
You can keep your Eldorados.
And the foreign car's absurd.
Me, I want to go down,
In a silver Thunderbird.

OK, don't flame me for the diss on Eldorados. As a general rule, I hate Fords, but I do like certain Mustangs and T-Birds.

Johnny Cash, American Recordings, The Man Who Couldn't Cry:

There once was a man who just couldn't cry
He hadn't cried for years and for years
Napalmed babies and the movie love story
For instance could not produce tears
As a child he had cried as all children will
Then at some point his tear ducts ran dry
He grew to be a man, it all hit the fan
Things got bad, but he couldn't cry

His dog was run over, his wife up and left him
And after that he got sacked from his job
Lost his arm in the war, was laughed at by a whore
Ah, but sill not a sniffle or sob

His novel was refused, his movie was panned
And his big Broadway show was a flop

He got sent off to jail; you guessed it, no bail
Oh, but still not a dribble or drop

In jail he was beaten, bullied and buggered
And made to make license plates
Water and bread was all he was fed
But not once did a tear stain his face

Doctors were called in, scientists, too
Theologians were last and practically least

They all agreed sure enough; this was sure no cream puff
But in fact an insensitive beast

He was removed from jail and placed in a place
For the insensitive and the insane
He played lots of chess and made lots of friends
And he wept every time it would rain

Once it rained forty days and it rained forty nights
And he cried and he cried and he cried and he cried

On the forty-first day, he passed away
He just dehydrated and died

Well, he went up to heaven, located his dog
Not only that, but he rejoined his arm
Down below, all the critics, they loot it all back
Cancer robbed the whore of her charm

His ex-wife died of stretch marks, his ex-employer went broke
The theologians were finally found out

Right down to the ground, that old jail house burned down
The earth suffered perpetual drought
God, that song cracks me up. Now I've got Dusty Springfield's Son of Preacher Man, the song Chad started this thread with.

455 Rocket, Kathy Mattea:

Mr. Smith had an Oldsmobile
Baby blue with them wire wheels
I took her home the day that she was adverstised
He said she leaked when, it would rain
Sounded like an aeroplane
But I knew she was a jewel in disguise

She had a 455 Rocket
The biggest block alive
I couldn't hardly wait just to take my turn
She was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn

Well, whose junkpile piece of sh.....Chevelle is this?
You boys come here to race or just kiss?
Don't you wanna know what I got underneath my hood?
I know she might sound like she's missing
But buddy, she could teach you a lesson
In just a quater mile, and I'll smoke you good

In my 455 Rocket
The kind the police drive
I couldn't hardly wait just to take my turn
She was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn

I'm telling you and I ain't ashamed
I cried when that wrecker came
As we skid I thought I heard the angels sing (sounded like the Beach Boys)
We hit the curve and began to sail
Took out most of the safety rail
Even the cop asked me
"Man, what'd you have in that thing?"

I had a 455 Rocket
The very kind you drive
You oughta watch yourself when you take that turn
'Cause she was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn
Lord, she's a Rocket she was made to burn

I'm listening to "In the back of a Pontiac" by The Refreshments.

There is actually a Fleetwood Brougham mentioned in the lyrics. The music is a rock'n'roll / rockabilly kind of music.

IN THE BACK OF A PONTIAC

by J ARNELL

In a sixty-two Pontiac Bonneville
Two young lovers went ridin´ up the hill
They went hidin´ from the rest of the world
Same old story ´bout boy meets girl
She had found the one that she´d been dreamin´ of
They made love that night under stars above
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
She got pregnant that night and first she cried
But Johnny kneeled and she became his bride
Then them nine months went by in a wink of an eye
And two weeks early they heard the first cry
They were speedin´ down the highway but too late
She gave birth to a baby girl who would not wait
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
solo
Well she grew up gracefully and in her teens
She was a full grown beauty by all means
Every weekend she borrowed the car
Loaded with friends they were ridin´ far
They were goin´ ´ round and makin´ some noise
She was just havin´ fun and kissin´ the boys
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
solo
On a Sunday mornin´ on their way back home
On a windin´ road came a Fleetwood Brougham
Way too fast around a bend
They screamed out loud as they saw the end
The radio was playin´ the Man in black
Then it all went quite there
in the back of the Pontiac
Well it all went so fast she felt no pain
As she died that night in the cold and drivin´ rain
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac
In the back of a Pontiac

Well despites that i "cut and pasted" the lyrics, it took so long that now am i listening to a song named "24 - 7" with the same group. No wait, now is it "drinkin' wine spoo-dee-oo-dee" -same group.

Highway Patrolman- Bruce Springsteen, off his '82 "Nebraska" album.

It's a song, basically, about a brother's love. One brother is a cop, the other is a criminal, so it's an internal battle for the cop between his family and his job.

My name is Joe Roberts, I work for the state
I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville, barracks number eight
I always done an honest job, as honest as I could
I got a brother named Frankie, and Frankie ain't no good

Now, ever since we was young kids, it's been the same come down
I get a call on the shortwave, Frankie's in trouble downtown
Well, if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away
But when it's your brother, sometimes you look the other way

Yeah, me and Frankie, laughin' and drinkin'
Nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"
I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would
Man turns his back on his family, well he just ain't no good

Well Frankie went in the army back in 1965
I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife
But them wheat prices kept on droppin'
Till it was like we were gettin' robbed
Frankie came home in '68 and me, I took this job

Yeah, we're laughin' and drinkin'
Nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"
I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line
Man turns his back on his family, he ain't no friend of mine

The night was like any other, I got a call 'bout quarter to nine
There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line
There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad, bleedin' hard from his
head
There was a girl cryin' at a table, it was Frank, they said

Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights
I must have drove 110 through Michigan county that night
It was out at the crossroads down 'round Willow Bank
Seen a Buick with Ohio plates, behind the wheel was Frank
Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said
"Canadian border 5 miles from here"
I pulled over to the side of the highway and watched his taillights
disappear

Me and Frankie, laughin' and drinkin'
Nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
As the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"
I catch him when he's strayin', like any brother would
Man turns his back on his family, well he just ain't no good

Album "ON THE ROCKS"

"GOOD NEWS TRAVELS FAST" (Rick Klang)

Shorty ran through the door of the local waterhole
He'd heard that Ruby's back in town, he heard it on the radio
Everybody disappeared and that's a fact
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast

She's smoking filter cigarrettes and she loves to rock'n roll
She likes the last row in the dark in at the picture show
She said the only thing that's better is my drop top Cadillac
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast

(solo)

Well, I finished my beer, I stepped outside to take a look around
They had a nine piece band and the major was strollin' around
Give me the key to the city and a front page flash
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast

She's smoking cigarrettes and she loves to rock'n roll
She likes the last row in the dark in at the picture show
She said the only thing that's better is my drop top Cadillac
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast

(solo)

She's smoking filter cigarrettes and she loves to rock'n roll
She likes the last row in the dark in at the picture show
She said the only thing that's better is my drop top Cadillac
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast
Ruby's good news and good news travels fast

Jolle, thanks for the link. I'm impressed that they actually drew the car with the correct styling cues for a '62 Bonneville. Cool song, if sad in the end.

They pronounce "Pontiac" kind of funny. Sounds similar to "poignant."

#117 - Madonna - Don't Tell Me

From the album Ray Of Light, which I've got... IMO a really great album, not typical Madonna at all, I like this song alot.

Top 200 hits of the 2000's

Where can I obtain a copy of this list?

isohunt.com..... you also need another program :::cough:::bittorrent:::cough:::: to fully "use" it.... I was just typing "top" and you get top 100 of 19xx or 200x year by year, I have top 250 of the 1990's etc.... any of them.... also good for pretty much any other type of music besides "top"

But when you find what you are looking for, click the title and it opens the contained files, and theres your "list" :)

To put it simply :)

Ive seen this girl play before. She is remarkable.

An acoustic version of 3 Doors Down, "Kryptonite"
after that, came an acoustic version of Heart Shaped Box, done by Evanescence. Her voice is otherworldly.
