I don't own this, but saw this today, and thought some of you may be interested in buying the car.

The '88 Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance is a dark grey metallic with a black vinyl roof. Interior is also grey, and it's velour, for those of you who prefer that over the leather. Interior has no visible cracks in any plastic, or on the dash, etc. Just normal wear on the drivers seat. No rust on the exterior, although the paint has oxidized a bit and there are a few minor dings/dents/chips. Part of the grille is loose--it's all there, just must have a couple bolts missing, as it just flaps around. One high beam headlight is cracked, and the cornering lamps are frosted over real bad. It has the 5.0 L engine with 150,000 some odd miles on it. The lady said it has had about $600 worth of engine work done on it (not sure what--I'll ask) and it has new battery and brakes all around. The tires are in decent shape with good tread left. It has the locking wire wheel covers, and they appear to be in good shape. She did say it uses a fair amount of antifreeze--for those who know what that means, there you go...

I'm gonna go drive it this afternoon. She's askin' $1800, but wants to unload it, as she has a new car. I'm gonna try and sell her on my detailing services to try to clean it up. I think it has pretty good potential to look nice.

I'll post results of my drive later. I'll take pics, but since I'm not a supporting member yet, I don't want to waste my mb on someone else's car. Maybe I can upload to Photobucket... PM me if you are interested in the car. Oh, it's in Newton, Iowa, 35 miles due east of Des Moines on Rt. 80.

The car is dirty, so the pics won't be that great. I wasn't quite able to sell her on my detailing--I think she just wants out of it.

Anyway, I drove it. It has some exhaust pipe issues--she's a bit loud for a Caddy of her stature. Has some relatively minor mechanical issues, but most everything works fine--power seats, Twilight Sentinal, Automatic temp controls, stereo/tape, door locks. The trunk won't open from the inside, but the pulldown feature works. I did forget to try the windows though. Wipers need replaced, and she's put on a new wiper motor recently. Couldn't get the washer fluid to shoot up on the windshield either. 4 note horn sounds like it's missing a note or two.

Driving it: Seems like drivetrain is ok, some sluggishness in the acceleration department above and beyond what is typical in the 5.0 L. Probably could use some filter changes or spark plugs. Steering pulls very slightly to the right.

Overall impression: Has alot of potential. Someone who likes these will have a pretty decent automobile for the money, imo.

Well, I uploaded the pictures up to my Photobucket album. Tried to get different angles and some interior pics as well. Photographed the most glaring faults in the paint as well.

Thanks, man!! I'm not the tech savvy person I want to be. How do you link the pics? Would love to know.

Your not gonna start taking pics of every POS out there for sale and post it on here, are you?. There is nothing extraordinary about this car. Its got high mileage and the problems that are associated with its age/mileage. That plus the price is too high. :alchi:

Damn man, whats your problem. He posted one car, and how the hell is that a POS? It was local and stood out to him, you act like he published a friggin Deals on Wheels page by page. Now I agree with you on some things, but lighten up.

Hey, I'm sorry. I know alot of people like these cars and like to have them go to people that like them. I remember one thread about a Caddy heading to the crusher, and lots of people jumped on board to save it, and they did. I asked Urbanski if it was alright to do this, as I am relatively new to this forum and didn't want to do something against the club's rules, and he said I could go ahead and post it.

I don't intend to make a habit of this at all. It was a fair amount of my time and energy to post the car anyway. Again, I was hoping to help some Caddy lover find a decent Brougham d'Elegance.

As far as the price, the lady offered to sell it to me for $1000, but I can't swing it right now, so she is negotiable in her price.

Definately not worth all the trouble of taking all those pics and posting it though. Its a very average car in very average condition and a bit high on price for what it is, at least in my geographical area (Florida).

I'd like to see more posts like this. Anything that helps keep these cars out of the hands of morons, or at least gives them a fighting chance, is laudable.

If youre going to make posts about cars you see for sale unless theres something really special about them dont make them too long and put the pictures somewhere else or just e-mail them to people who want to see it. Putting pictures in the forum makes it look like youre trying to sell it and ads arent allowed.

I actually like seeing some caddys out there posted, that Brougham could be a standout of it fell into the right hands. It's sort of like reading human interest stories in the paper. Do you NEED to know? Maybe not, but who is it hurting. Plus I wouldn't have my Phaeton if Chad hadn't posted it and told me. So I think it's helpful for people looking to pick up a deal they might not have seen otherwise, I mean, whats a better place to post a Cadillac than the Cadillac forums?

Brougham,

I won't probably be doing this again, BUT, in my earlier posts, I did upload to my album in Photobucket and referred people to it. Another poster moved a few pics to this post--I don't know how to do that, but he was trying to help me out. Maybe I wrote it up a little too lengthy, but I thought Cadillac people would appreciate the detail about a Cadillac. I also thought that the mechanical issues were not a big issue, given all the folks on this site who know how to do just about everything to their cars mechanically.

Again, as I said to Destroyer, it took a fair amount of my time to do all this, and so I probably won't do this anymore--unless I am attempting to sell mine or something like that.

Don't want to create problems or cause enemies out here--life's too short.
