I have a 1995 FWB with a heat issue.

I think it is two problems but related.

While driving last week, the heat started to only come from the defog and floor vents. I know this is a vacuum door issue.

The second problem is sometimes the air temp is hot and matched the temp selected in the climate control, other times it is cold outside air.

These both started to happen at the same time. I was planning on taking the FWB on a road trip for Thanksgiving, but my girlfriend keeps insisting on heat for some reason....I mean c'mon it still has seat heaters!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Are you using the "auto" feature on the climate control center (CCC)?? This will regulate between hot and cold to maintain your set temp. It will also engage the ac compressor periodically.

If you use "econ" mode as opposed to auto then no ac compressor and typically you'll get heat all the time. I noticed that lately in CHicagoland weather that cool air will come out of the dash vents when at 72 degrees setpoint. Above 72 and I strictly get warm air from foot vents.

Are you getting intermittent cool air from the feet area? This is only supposed to be warm air. If you get cool air then I would guess that you have air pockets in the vehicle cooling system and the air needs to be bled via the screw on the t-stat housing.

The factory service manual has extensive troubleshooting for the CCC. It's pretty impressive, just was looking at it briefly last night.
