except in worse shape. it looks like its been sitting for quite a while, and Im going to go inquire about it... original tires, wire wheels, the car would be a beauty if i could get my hands on it... hopefully some of it is in working condition...
what do you guys think? im totally into doing it except i'm in college and i dont really have that much free time (or the space) to do such a project thanks to my 85 fleetwood... I'll let you know whats up and maybe post some pictures of it if the guy caves and lets me take it off his hands... caddydaddy 11-16-06, 08:13 PM Well, what are you looking for? A car to restore, or just a beater to drive around?
If the car has been sitting for quite a while, it may need at least $500 or more just to get it roadworthy again. Benzilla 11-16-06, 10:55 PM Oh hell yeah! of course I'm the guy with a crazy obsession for '79 coupes. Not one of them should ever end up as a beater, so if you buy it, do it because you want to help it and take care of it. And $500 is nothing to pay to get one more of these grand old dames back on the road making Volvo's feel inadequate. bicentennialcadillac 11-16-06, 11:15 PM Oh hell yeah! of course I'm the guy with a crazy obsession for '79 coupes. I wholeheartedly endorse this suggestion. Phantom&RedGoat2004 11-16-06, 11:27 PM I'd make sure of what does and doesn't work before you get too excited. I have a '68 convertible that has been sitting for too long because "I always wanted one". I'm not trying to rain on the parade here, just consider me as more of the voice of reason - Jiminey Cricket, if you will. I'd hate to see someone become too overwhelmed in a project like I did, and lose all hope (as well as $). caddydaddy 11-16-06, 11:32 PM Oh hell yeah! of course I'm the guy with a crazy obsession for '79 coupes. I love '79s as well, since I own one, but I hate having to dump tons of money into a beater just to keep it running! It's a decision you gotta make up front, whether to put the time, money and effort into restoration, or pass on the car. I've got over $6k into my '79 and it's still no where near done! Benzilla 11-16-06, 11:50 PM That reminds me, I don't think I've ever seen your '79.
It all depends on where you want to go with the car how much cash you can drop. One could do it full out restoration, weekend cruiser(my goal for my '79), or a pretty driver. that could range anywhere from just a couple grand, to over $20,000. The only thing to worry about is rust, if it has cancer - as we all know - VERY bad. surface rust can be dealt with. caddydaddy 11-17-06, 05:06 PM That reminds me, I don't think I've ever seen your '79.
Well, it's not much to look at since I've started some body work, and removed the vinyl roof. And the car is blue with a silver '78 Fleetwood hood! But it has a rebuild 472, trans and a posi rear. | |
