: Found the reason why my car "jerks" during acceleration

Appearently the mechanic replaced only the right top engine mount, leaving the left one stock and I can wiggle it with my hands:mad: Hopefully it didn't have any adverse effect on my car with just one good top engine mount.

Some looseness is normal. I could "wiggle" my '97's from day one. Never did replace them. Not sure exactly what you mean by "jerks", but I doubt you'd feel anything in drivability from a little looseness in the dogbone bushings. I never did.

What I meant by "jerks" is the car feels like it has to "engage" before the car accelerates, as if there are spaces between the trany gear. I drove around in a parking lot with the hood open and looked at my engine as I step on the gas pedal, I can clearly see my engine rocks much harder on the left than right.

I would not expect that symptom from a torque strut, but they are cheap enough and easy enough to replace to see if that stops it.

Besides the upper torque struts have you checked the three lower motor/transmission mounts? Especially the two front ones?

I honestly don't believe that's the correct problem, sorry. Although with one bad, one good, it may be different. I had replaced mine not too long ago, for about $10 each. The old ones were gone... All the bushings were ripped to shreds and one almost fell out. They had about .5-1 inch of wiggle on each end. However, after replacing them, I felt no difference in acceleration. Maybe a very minute change in smoothness but hardly noticable.

You should be able to twist and manipulate it to some degree.
The bushings are a rubber and do have flex and compress.

If what you mean by, "I can wiggle it with my hands", is that its actually loose and there is no restriction, if there is actuall play. I would replace it.

In essence it should be at least "close" to the same as the one that was just replaced.
If you feel that it is actually that bad, then I would change that first.
Definately easier and cheaper than the tranny mounts.

Is a good bet it needs changing anyways seein as the other was shot.
Once the right went the left was given a harder work out. Or visa versa.
