I'm sure that it's been asked a thousand times already, but I've lost patience with our highly sophisticated search function. I've learned that the '80-'89 will bolt right up, but what about the '77-'79. I'd like a Coupe DeVille, and would prefer to skip a 368-425 swap I'd have to do on the '80-'83. Will the '90-'92 front bolt up to the '77-'79? If it's not a direct fit, then what is the problematic piece(s)? Thanks in advance. PRG04

The fenders and front clip are totally different. They look similar, but bolt holes and sizes are not compatible. If you want a CDV with a 90-92 front end and an easy big-block swap, find an 80-81 CDV, swap a 90-92 front-end, and find an earlier big block.

I like the old-school look of the '77-'78; that would be really cool with the newer/smoother front clip. I know the fenders and hood are going to be diferent, and I expect a diference in supprts and bracketry, but I was hoping that if I had access to a complete parts car, I could even change out inner wheel wells, radiator support, ect. to upgrade the front...That is unless when you said, "...sizes are not compatible," you mean that the cars have diferent frames. That would make this idea a total dud.
EDIT: Man, I feel dumb. I just found out about the early 80's Fleetwood 2-door that has a similar roof-line that I like so much. End stupidity now.

You're not dumb! Everyone has questions! The frames for the 77-79 cars are the same, but the bodies are different.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm kinda frustrated that I've read literally thousands of books/magazines, and I never knew about the Fleetwood Coupe. I've read detrails on the Opera Coupes, and the oober-rare Cameleon. I read-up on how they sub-contracted Fleetwoods and Sedan DeVilles to coach companies to create wagons, and after '76 a few DeVille Convertibles came out of Florida. Just goes to show that even a veterain Caddy man can find a new species every once in a while.
