View Full Version : Daytime running lights? Partiers_com 02-29-04, 07:56 PM How do the DRL's work? Our headlights have never turned on during the day, but sometimes the green dash light comes on and sometimes it doesn't. Are our daytime running lights disconnected?
Thanks,
Kevin
'99 Escalade genofish 03-04-04, 01:53 AM On our 2000 the daytime running lights come on with the ignition so when we start the Escalade the drl's :p come on automatically and when it gets dark outside the headlight and dashlights come on automatically. Now If you have the parking brake on the headlights will go out I have heard.

If our DRL's are disabled, what are some of the ways they could have been disabled/disconnected? Could it have something to do with the parking brake or a pulled fuse or relay or are the bulbs disconnected?
Any thoughts...
Thanks,
Kevin
'99 Escalade with no DRL's
:annoyed: 99 SKALAID 03-04-04, 10:35 AM i wish my DRL's didint work :annoyed: Partiers_com 03-04-04, 10:57 AM Ok, in addition to the question we have about getting the DRL's to work...
:rolleyes2
How do you turn off your headlights at night?...and just have the parking lights on... Like sometimes when you go over a friend's house to pick them up and you're sitting in their driveway waiting for them...sitting there lit up like a Christmas tree...headlights glaring in their windows...is there a way to just have your parking lights on at night while sitting idle (another method to do it other than turning the truck off, engaging the emergency brake, putting on your parking lights and starting the truck again--atleast that's a method we've read about???)
Thanks,
Kevin

no that is the only way parking brake, park, key off, key on, then the lights are off, it seems odd that your lights go on at night, but not at the day time :hmm: should be the same circuit  Partiers_com 04-01-04, 01:25 PM How about disconnecting the photocell sensor that tells the headlights to turn on at dusk...where is it? is there one? can it be disconnected so the headlights only work manually with the switch on the dash? These automatic lights are driving me crazy. :annoyed: Partiers_com 04-06-04, 02:16 PM These automatic lights are driving me crazy. :annoyed:
Has anybody pulled the radio & modified the DRL/Automatic headlights controller?
See http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html
I just can't seem to figure out the best way to get these headlights to only work with the dash switch and not turn on automatically... :rant2: caddyshack24 04-06-04, 08:15 PM i though the automatic lights are called "twilight sentinal"
photocell on the grill..
turned mine off.. some things shouldnt be automated :D Partiers_com 05-03-04, 02:05 AM How did you disable your automatic headlights so that they only work on the dash switch? Can't find any switch or easy way on the '99 Escalade to disable them.
:bonkers:
We've heard you can pull the radio and behind it is a DRL/Automatic headlight controller that can be modified so that the lights won't turn on automatically in the day or night. http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html
If anybody's disabled their Escalade's daytime running lights (ours are disabled somehow already) and/or disabled their automatic nighttime headlights, please let us know how you did it.
Thanks, pull fuse labelled drl..... Partiers_com 05-03-04, 08:42 AM pull fuse labelled drl.....
I see a fuse labeled DRL - FOG in the fuse block on the driver's side dash area. Would pulling this disable the automatic headlights -day & night? I'll give it a try.
:disappoin

This is a great forum, I'm a new owner of a 2k Black Escalade and i totally love it.
To 99SKALAID Great writeup about DRL i followed and worked great. that was my first MOD. on my truck. I wanted to add about the instructions that theres no need to take the lower dash apart if you stick your head under it the DRL module is right there took it out with a pair of neddle nose pliers was done in less than 3 min.
Thanks!! :bouncy: 99 SKALAID 05-31-05, 04:16 AM This is my first post her and just wanted to say Hello to everyone here.

yeah since i had no idea what i was doing or looking for at the time, it was much easier to disassemble alot of the dash and probe for wires, then to just guess at random boxes. I didnt even think about if it was possible of doing without removing all the dash. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I might have to rewrite the article :lildevil: smoovlatino 06-02-05, 09:54 AM On the 2002 and up Escalades, just press the dome override button 4x until you hear an audible chime and the drl's shut off.... I'm not sure if your truck has the dome override button?? |
