View Full Version : My updated 09 V HP Forecast... 450HP LS3 w/perhaps a 500 LS7 option
In my opinion the '08 V will base w/ a 450hp LS2.
I'm basing this off Saleen's comments on the next base Vette motor, which I think is an aboslute shoe-in to be dropped in the next V.

Saleen: I hope I don't get in trouble with GM for saying this, but they're using a 6.2 liter 450 horsepower engine for the premium V8 in the 2009 Camaro and the base Corvette. The base V8 will probably be a detuned version of the same 6.2. So we'll just upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 to Saleen level specifications. We're going to upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 if we're given the legal chance by GM. Our base model should have around 485 horsepower, and expect our Extreme Supercharged Camaro to have over 600 horsepower. ChicagoCTS32 11-01-06, 09:51 PM Saleen + GM... weird, but I won't complain. Do you really think they'll have two engine options in a limited production car like the V series Cadillacs? I don't personally think so, but we'll wait and see. I also don't think we're going to see an 08 CTS-V either. Maybe, middle of the year early release 09 model. Thanks for the article J. heavymetals 11-02-06, 01:57 AM This has been speculated on before.
They might offer an automatic with a supercharged Northstar (ala STS-V) or an LS7 option with a stick.
Push rod= HOT ROD rand49er 11-02-06, 05:54 AM Geez, this is all gonna make pulling up to a traffic light in my lil' ole LS6 a bit humbling. jasaero 11-02-06, 07:11 AM Saleen + GM... weird, but I won't complain. I'm with you. There can only be one engine option in such a vehicle. I am not going to say there won't eventually be some pumped up normal CTS engine option though(V8, Turbo or SC V6??). I am predicting though that the 09 CTS-V will have one of the two SC LS engines for sure(Think they will be an LS8 and LS9). The LS9 is also possibly a DOHC engine of some sorts, but I think that is VERY debatable. No clue what the LS3 is going to be exactly as I haven't found any hard info on it, which suggests it's a ways off for the 09 V?? Whether it is the LS8 or LS9 is tough to say, but my guess is that it uses the LS9 as that engine seems more in the correct timeframe according to this info.
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449210 I heard wasn't even going to be an 08V. They are coming back out in 09. jasaero 11-02-06, 08:16 AM I heard wasn't even going to be an 08V. They are coming back out in 09.
That's probably correct. The '08 CTS will exist with no V in '07 sometime. Probably in '08 when the '09 CTS's are on their way out a V will come with them as an '09 model. So, the engine would have to be finished by '08 as my link suggests. I have been reading more about LS9 and it seems it is OHV with a super charger probably. It will probably use the same 6.2L block from the new Escalade. This is probably also true of the LS3 ane LS8. The LS3 being a non-SC engine with the LS8 and LS9 being blown. rand49er 11-02-06, 09:02 AM ... some pumped up normal CTS engine option though(V8, Turbo or SC V6??). ...I like this. A 3.6L turbo (@300+ hp) and some distinctive badging would be nice and add a little spice, too.
As far as the V goes, if they're not at 500 hp (or more), they're going to definitely lag the competition. As much as I like the breathability of multi-valve engines, with pushrods allowing for a lower hood profile and with the availability of high-quality superchargers, I'd think a SC'd pushrod V would be easy to do and could compete. Florian 11-02-06, 09:40 AM LS9 = 6.2L S/C for the new Vette. The V will not get that. MAYBE an LS7. Heres some interesting info: "The L92 (truck), LS3 and the LS9. They all use the same casting, number 12584724. That's the number I see in one of the photographs. So this block could fit any of the applications."
Heres the LS9/LS9 life cycle thread: http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47814
Interesting indeed.
F 1QUICKV 11-02-06, 09:50 AM Whatever the case may be i can't see the new V having less then 500hp. Just wait until are cars book values drop like a rock. My younger brother and my father just got a 2007 blue zo6 with 7 miles on it, pick up is this weekend. The only problem i have is that i want the 500hp in my car. And i cant believe the CTS-VR is an ls2 with 500hp w/o s/c! 90Brougham350 11-02-06, 10:35 AM rand49r is right, without 500 horses, it will really lag behind BMW and MB. By the time the new V comes out, a new M5 is probably only a year or 2 away from a mild update, and it won't be getting any slower or less powerful. jasaero 11-02-06, 01:44 PM I'm with you guys on 500hp. BUT, the hump in the tester '09 CTS-V suggests to me that there will be a SC and the sound is of an OHV engine.....SO.....that to me means a blown LS engine. The only one looking to be ready for the release time frame of the '09 V is the SC Blue Devil engine. ChicagoCTS32 11-02-06, 02:38 PM There have been two spy shots of an "09 CTS-V". One had the hump and the photographer "swore it was the sound of a supercharger". The other picture had no hump. Seems like they're trying out a few options before deciding. Florian 11-02-06, 03:29 PM how bout the V being the powertrain mule for the vette...that could be logical.
F jasaero 11-02-06, 07:28 PM Where are the spy shot's of an '09 V without a hump??? The video and all the pictures I have seen have a hump. And I turned up my stereo on the video and seems you can hear a bit whine/whir. Not very easy to tell for sure though. I predict 500hp base version V. There will also be a super V that will fold space. Now fetch me another beer Florian! :alchi: how bout the V being the powertrain mule for the vette...that could be logical.

Dave,
Don't let the the Corvette Camp find that out. The Z06 types were pissed enough to find the V had their once thought to exclusive engine. GM, at least from a marketing stand point, will not let another's reputation preceed their halo car! :)
