I just bought a 2002 Eldorado ETC, with 22,000 miles on it. It has the 300 HP Northstar engine. Where do I start to explore how to get more power out of this motor?? I'm open to all ideas.

Ed:rolleyes:

Not much you can do. Factory did it all for you. Do a search. It has been discussed before.

EDIT: Well, actually, you can buy these magnet things for your fuel line, and this tornado thing for your air intake tube, and put this weird bio-crap in your gas tank, and buy this blue goo import performance booster oil additive that I saw at meijer last year, add a fart pipe, and some useless $300 air intake thing and you'll be going REALLY fast! Oh and don't forget the Castrol Syntec-Swill that sets your engine power free!

maybe the best thing that you can do is to change the air filter, spark plugs, clean the coil cassette HT connectors, put in a pair of japanese made CKP's and a pair of manifold O2 sensors.
followed by an oil change and a blast at WOT for a few miles?

it seems that apart from keeping the motor in good tune there is little else to do.

The problem with the power increases is that all the easy stuff has been done. If you have bushels of money to spend the sky is the limit. Everything revolves around the Engine Management Unit. Any mod you do will require reprogramming the EMU. If your name is Bill Gates that should be duck soup.

There you have it Ed. Bottom line is there is not much you can do. It already puts out 1 hp per cubic inch, nothing to sneeze at and will eat most ricers for breakfast. Drive it and enjoy it. Hope no one scared you away. Stick around and you will learn how to care for and repair that beast.

BTW, :welcome:

Yes!!! I'm not the last NooB with that exact same question anymore.
Woohoo!
To answer your question though...according to this forum, no chip presently exists, and there is all of one OBD-2 reprogrammer in the world....and that's owned by CadillacETC1997.

:alchi:

The general consensus has been to go with a free flowing exhaust and hope for an "easy button" somewhere down the line. Good luck!

Yet, to my knowledge no one has seen any Dyno numbers on it, so even that one is still questionable.

:stirpot: You're looking at an engine that is rated, in driveable tuning, at just over 1 HP/cu.in. About the same size as a tricked-out 1962 Chevy 283. You have only two choices: Go to nitrous or supercharging, at prohibitive cost and dramatically less engine life (trying to properly tune such a PCM controlled rig would involve black magic) or stuff in more cubic inches. 'Twould be interesting to spend the megabucks to turn an ETC/STS into a RWD vehicle with a, say, wild 427 or 454 inside........Better to do as we say and enjoy the luxury of a well-maintained, detailed , head turner. Run the snot out of it once in a while and have fun doing it in leather happiness. There is nothing on the road that looks better than a late '90 or early 00' series DTS/STS/ETC. Rice burners suck. (No matter how fast they are....or where they're "made")..and always remember, TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch).

 HITMONEY, CORSA system for my '02 STS just landed on my doorstep. Any magic involved in installation? What about after-CAT O2 sensor...still OK at 32,000? I have access to both an indoor 4-wheel or frame lift, so the workability should be OK. A rainy day project in E. MD. I'll save the original system in 1 piece, just in case. TKS

With a lift available, the install should be fairly straight foward. The key is to make sure the tips are centered both side to side and foward and back.

While I chose to have my system welded up, the supplied clamps seemed to have worked decenty for others on this board.

You should no problems keeping with the original O2 sensor.

Get ready for a very different sounding car.
