View Full Version : Attracting More Members!!

We need to find a way to attract more members. This place gets kind of boring sometimes. We need a vast variety of cadillac owners. There are all kinds of caddys left out here Old ones , rare ones, non-popular ones. I just see plenty of people out there who could be on here that arent because they dont find anything they want here or they dont know about the place.

i think it may have more to do with the lack of internet use amongst cadillac owners, but you never know

It also has to do with the fact that we've only existed since the end of December. We're actually growing at a good pace!

Normally when you join a board, there are already a diversity of people there. But we have only been here since december, and a lot of the people that came here came here from GMfourms, since GMF pretty much sucks in trying to find something relavent. Here, almost all the moderators were here within 2 months of it starting, I came about 3 days after it started. So trying to say we need to get more members is correct (never too many right???), but to say we dont have a good enough diversity isnt really fair, since we havent even been around for 6 months!!!!

We have been growing very rapidly, and have been getting a new member every day, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. Pretty good for a brand new site!!

give it 5 years...it'll swell to 25,000 members+

This is why I suggested to Sal that we link up with the CLC. It would bring a whole new group to the forums.
I think we have a lot of members but most are just tuning in occassionally when they need some info, or when they have some free time to kill. Also, the people that are posting here seem to be overwhelmingly FWD guys. So that suggests a younger crowd too. I actually was in the Cadillac Owners Group on Yahoo when I found out about this forum. I've been here ever since. Of course I still go over all the mail from the list but have continually tried to get people to come over here.

Avalanche, Pinto, Pacer, Gremlin, AMC Matador, Pontiac Phoenix hatchback, early BMW's, Dodge Fargo (Nogo) trucks, oops I may have struck a nerve there. What do you click on to get smilies on here!? I realize some of these are not from this century, but hey, I ran out. Oh yea, the new Honda Element HAS got to be the dog ugliest I have ever seen! (even worse than my ex-girlfriend) Actually I heard that the Gremlin's are very collectable now. There was apparently one on ebay for 15,000 U.S. dollars!

Since the bulk of cadillacs in the last 15 years have been fwd, it may indicate that people have bought their cars sometime in the last 15 years. How that shows a younger crowd, im not sure. Well i guess it would be weird to see an old guy driving a fwd deville....NOT

Actually, I'd like to think this site has been up since January. It only started on December 30th of 2002.. So... Basically it's been here since the new year..

So, yes. We're growing quite quickly. But it CAN get boring here. I tried contacting the CLC but they never reply to my email.. If anyone has any contact with anyone there, please mention the fact that we'd like to link up to help one another out.. I can't seem to get through..

Some of you have gone out of your way to bring new members here - for that, I am very greatful - and the rest of us should be greatful as well - and the rest of the people who join these forums from now 'till the end of time should be greatful...

Thank you...

Sal

So this is pick on Kevin day? Ok, I can take it.

Actually KC and Brett, the point I was trying to make is that if you look at the "other" Cadillac groups and boards, there tends to be a lot more RWD cars owned by OLDER people. There ARE a lot of them out there still. The Cadillac collectors and owners of "classics" are virtually ALL RWD cars (with the exception of some Eldorados).
So I was suggesting that if we attract more RWD owners, we will also be getting a lot more older people, and vice-versa.
That's why I suggested the CLC. They've been around a lot longer than us and would bring a lot of passionate and experienced Cadillac enthusiasts to our membership.

Brett
04-09-03, 01:54 PM
i've checked out some other caddy sites and frankly this is the best one. There are a few out there that are just lame. either no recent talk or bad layout or both. Only time will tell, but i think we're off to a great start. Hell we'd probably have double the memebers but KC, Kat, and Wes tend to attack about 1 out of 5 new posters :)

kcnewell
04-09-03, 03:43 PM
We hardly ever hurt them!

Katshot
04-09-03, 03:57 PM
I warn them not to feed the animals but they don't listen. Besides, 1 out of 5 isn't bad ;) Hell Meatloaf made MILLIONS on 2 out of 3 which is WAY worse odds.

Actually, I think that only shows that 20% of new members start something with one of us. But that still leaves 80% that we get along with just fine. And I bet that out of the 20% we have initial issues with, more than half get back in line after our initial instruction period. ;)

Now that sounds like at least 90% of new members have no issues with Me, KC, or Wes. Not bad, especially considering we're probably like 80-90% of the reason anybody comes here in the first place. I mean I'm sure we're getting a great rep and everybody knows this is THE place to come for Cadillac info, political insight, and just plain old fun.

KC, Wes, what do you think?

Brett
04-09-03, 04:02 PM

I would have to say I get along with every member, except for that one guy i completely went off the deep-end with. And when I "attack" them, I am just setting them straight so KC and Kat dont attack them. And when someone says something stupid, they shouldnt get away with it.

Hell, I never do ;)

BeelzeBob

Wait a minute. 80-90% of the people here don't post at all. Don't scare away the 10% who post.. We're building up slowly but surely now. Lots of signups - but like ALL boards, only a small percentage post. Out of 1000 members, only about 50 should be expected to be frequent contributors...

Have you checked out their site? They have some real nice stuff including this:
http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/suggestionbox.shtml

To get in touch with the President, you can email to:
president@cadillaclasalleclub.org

His name is Bill Edmunds and I have emailed him in the past. He does answer emails promptly as I recall.

I would do the mailing but I think you should handle it. Having anyone but yourself try to contact them would only come off as unprofessional I'm sure.

maybe the site would be better if so called "moderators" didn't get in fights with people and talk all sorts of trash. Moderaters should moderate and not instigate. Sal is the man and is always pleasant though...

you should allow people to take longer to write a reply...sometimes you have to log in again and you lose everything you were writing and you have to do it over...peace

Sal is NOT a moderator. He is the site ADMINISTRATOR. And you're right, he is always nice. He can afford to be since he has us, the moderators to be the bad guys for him.

Well, I love checking in daily...in order to attract more members it might help to make the pages look nicer...check out VW Vortex as an example. Of course I know the site is young, however I was a member of Vortex since 2000 (it started in late 99) and it has always had that look. Also, try posting interesting articles related to Cadillac and the auto industry. Just my 2 cents worth....

Thanks for the advice, Rerm.. The only trouble with posting articles is the copywrite issues. You can only post part of the article.. Would you be interested in doing any of that for us? :p Posting articles and/or coming up with new designs? You've got my vote. :D

P.S. My Fiance is a service writer at Volkswagen.. What VW do you (or did you) own?

Well, it was pretty quick, unfortunately it no longer exists, as a car that is. It was totaled in January. But I must say for three years it was a fun car to own.

Even so, something strange has happened, I feel closer to the Beast (STS) than I ever did to my GTI!!!

Something about a V8 downshifting and just swoooping away from traffic....yeah I need a life!!! :D :D :D

BeelzeBob

No, I know what you mean about the STS. My ETC was so strong at highway speed. It's addicting. :)
