Anyone have any idea where the VIU/VCIM is located in a 2000 Catera?

1. Remove the left side trim from the rear compartment. (I'm assuming this means trunk area)
2. Remove the spare tire.
3. Remove the VIU and the bolts, including the electrical connection, from the side trim assembly of the rear compartment.

4. The VIU is attached with L-brackets which are screwed into the VIU unit, P/N 20472183. You can identify the VIU by the small, flat, and shiny metal case

I take it you're trying to disable OnStar?

Not trying to disable the onStar; Hacking into the GPS unit to wire up to a tablet PC (which, I happen to have spare) so as to not have to shell out $800 on one of those GPS dealies...use what I have and whatnot, ya know.

It is behind the spare tire.
The VIU is the dull aluminum larger box. The VCU (cellular modem) is the small shiny whiskey flask looking box.
The VCU is in charge of all cellular functions, the VIU is in charge of GPS and vehicle interface functions.
If it has a VCIM, it's one dull aluminum box with all functions being inside.

Just telling you where it is, what you do with it is your business. ;)
