I have the regular 98 Deville radio am/fm cass. I have heard of a trunk mount cd changer. Does anyone know if that will work with my present radio and if the wiring is in place in the trunk? and if it is where it would be located. Thanks for the help

Well I found out ,with out a CD button on radio you can not hook up a trunk mount CD changer. :banghead:

This site is very helpful end giving information on Cadillac radios including how to remove radios and speakers.

That is incorrect. Your vehicle is pre-wired for the factory CD changer and you can usually get a pretty good deal on one from E-bay. It bolts it with 2 bolts, plug it in, and the radio display will automatically recognize the changer. You don't need a "CD" button but you will use the "SOURCE" button to engage the changer.

Thanks once again for the info and anymore you can depart my way.

Just got home a few hours ago from Best Buy. I have a 97 Deville D'elegance and it IS prewired for a changer. I believe they all come that way. I purchased a NeoChanger brand 10 disc CD changer for $249.99. I also purchased a 48 month warranty for it that cost an additional $39.99 and finally, the installation fee of $60.99 ... Grand Total was $378.09. Took them about half an hour for the entire install. Great service and the sound is remarkable. The 11 speakers in that car sound awesome. By the way it is a 10 disc CD changer and you shuffle between the CDs by the radio preset buttons ... 1 - 6. I was kinda bummed at first because I thought the head unit would only read the 6 but after messing around for a few minutes I figured out if you press and hold the radio preset 1 for a few seconds it will beep and switch to CD 7. Then press and hold 2 and hold for CD 8 ... and so on. They also installed it underneath the rear shelf instead of on the trunk floor. I requested this because it is out of the way of damage from items in the trunk. I watched the entire install and the wiring was already there. They pulled back the cover where the power antenna is and there it was. The CD changer comes with 14 different cables and a switcher. The cables are labeled by auto manufacturer. It was just "plug and play". Had I have known it was going to be that easy, I would have certainly done it all myself. I can tell you though I would definitely recommend this changer. I'll let you know about reliability in the future but with the 48 month warranty I'm not a bit worried. I thought about getting one off Ebay but you know there is never a guarantee they will work or for how long. This is why I bought the new one. Good Luck!!!;)

The connector should already be in the trunk. You simply plug it into the back of the changer and your factory radio will recognize the new "Source". You can find the operating instructions in your Deville owners manual.
As far as finding a changer... Try crutchfield.com they now carry an aftermarket 6 disk changer for the 1997-2001 Deville it is made by USA SPEC part # SCD-G190CAD it goes for about $240. Or you can try EBay or the Web to find an OEM changer... The OEM changer is actually a 10 disk model.
On ebay, I see 'new' 'GM' 6-disc (not 12 disc) changers being advertized that are compatible for Cadillacs.
Does anyone know the GM part number for this 6-disc changer????
thanks.

You would need to click on "ask seller a question" link on the particular EBay auction that you are looking at. There are several different GM part #'s depending on what particular year Deville it is for. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that a GM # 12497299 is a 6 disk changer for the 2000-2001 Devilles. It also requires the 12497300 mounting bracket.
Heres a couple of links that may be of help.

I followed your advice here and just installed a NEO Changer on my 1998 Deville with a standard head unit. The interface cable was perfect, finding the connector in my trunk was the hardest part. I posted a note under electrical for folks who want to follow our leads with a CD Changer.
This was the coolest upgrade I've ever done to a car I've owned, and I was really satisfied with this product. Best Buy was clueless however, and they were of no help to me...I got someone who was over worked here in Seattle for sure. I bought mine at Frye's Electronics in Renton, WA for 272.00, that includes tax.
I took my time mounting it, I was able to use the hardware that came with it to mount it nicely, no drilling. I used the cargo let fastener in the lower right corner of the trunk and and ran the cable from the interface that I hooked up, behind the left side trunk liner to the unit. It looks very clean, I'll take some pictures later.
Thanks for this great site, I found it while trying to hunt for an alternative to my stock cassette deck. Now I can enjoy the factory deck, steering controls, and new CD options that appeared on the deck after I installed the CD player (it just detects and programs, there is nothing you have to do to the head unit to play all 10 CD's).
Caution: If you have a slot on your headunit that accepts any single CD, NEO Changer won't work. Also, if you have "On-Star" the directions sayit won't work.
A couple of beers and :drinker, you'll do fine with a NEO Changer without screwing anything up.
P.S. This thing is MUCH better than FM Modulated CD Changers!!
Good luck.

Your post was back in '04, so not sure this will get to you...but thought I'd try...I just installed (in my '98 DeVille-no existing CD) the same CD changer I believe you did...now a Periphal via NeoChanger (SSI) unit...guess that sold this part off....anyway....installation went easy, found the connector pretty easy...initially that the wrapped bigger connector was what I wanted...in the same bundle...anyway...my radiocassette head unit recognized the CD but couldn't get the thing to play...did you experience any of this...I waited the "at least" 3 minutes as per the instructions to let everything initialize. Just checking to see if you recall any initialization issues??
thanks...can reply to res1n9k9@verizon.net if want to..
see ya
