JALOPNICK AUTO NEWS - - There have been rumors of a V6 Corvette (http://www.corvetteconti.com/welcome/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=624&Itemid=47) for some time now, and here's the latest: A V6 Vette based on the Saturn Sky <sigh>.

I don't have any problems with the Corvette expanding it's model range per say, but basing it on the Solstice/Sky seems a bit ordinary, don't you think? I guess that's only way Bob Lutz and company can justify it to the corporate bean counters.

Ya gotta wonder though, just how many ways can GM milk this platform before they all blend together?and just how big is the 2-seater market anyway? Lastly, and perhaps most important, what does this do for the Corvette image? Not a whole lot of good I bet...

Give it a new Chevy name but to call it a Corvette would be a major mistake!

A V6 Vette eh? I don't care how many cost-benefit analysists you can do GM, the long-term damage to the name and image would cost you far more than selling a few extra Vettes would.

they would do beatter to do the kappa based nomad that was orginally planned ....

So it fits somewhere between the Chevette and the Corvette. The Chuvette?

Maybe for the Euro market, and as previously suggested, change the name. Change the styling too, DRAMATICALLY.

GM just doesn't get it...

This hardly sounds like something GM would ever do, so I'd just chalk it up to a really dumb rumor.

There may be a V6 going into a Kappa (Solstice/Sky platform), but it won't have ANYTHING to do with a Vette--which has been, and will continue to be, a completely different vehicle.

:yeah: GM has done some pretty stupid things, like earlier mentioned the Cimmaron, but they cannot be that stupid. Corvette is the American sports car, has been since the 50s. GM wont do anything to hurt the Vette name (especially doing something stupid like putting a v6 into something that chevy doesnt make and call it a "v6 Vette").

Corvette is already cheap. If you want it you can buy it, it doesn't have to come in a more affordable flavor.

Do you really believe that?:ill:

Is it not true that the XLR is built on the Vette pan?
How much longer would it take for them to be one&thesame? NOT VERY LONG!:suspense:

Besides....
It'd give you something 'nice-and-safe' to buy the tikes for christmas!:D

Now that I have just vomitted, I will comment.

GM will be a stupid s**t if they actually do this. If it is a rumor, then people are cruel.

ive figured it out , im just trying to find the pics , there is a way that this is a "v6 vette" but its nnot gonna have the corvette name on it ....

the car im thinking of was at the 1954 GM motorama , it was a corvette that had a nomad wagon treatment on it :

its the second one back in this photo:
http://palmeter.com/myweb4/54Corv15.jpg

couple years ago chevy came out with a kappa (the soltace platform) based concept called nomad styled like a retro of the 1954 vette nomad ....
http://www.madle.org/gmnomad3.jpg
http://www.madle.org/gmnomad2.jpg

Im betting it will simply be called "nomad" becuse Lutz really wants this car , and when the SSR disapears soon theyll need something to take its place ...as for the engine ...i bet itll have a pushrod 3.9 v6 , becuse of cost theyll want to keep it cheap ....but it might get that 3.6 from the cts ....

No way would the Corvette get a V6. Even if Lutz was that dumb, the minute he said anything public about it, Vette owners would rise up and kill him. The Camaro owners would help to.
However, there may be a V6 sports car using the Vette's chassis. And honestly, the Camaro coulda been made on a slightly stretched Vette chassis. Light and strong, would be a nice platform, of course so wold the CTs base.

I really like that fastback '53 shown above, why didn't they make it? That one might have actually changed it all for me.

Nice '53 Caddy behind them too.

the XLR was based off the vette line yes, but it doesnt have a V6 and it didnt do a thing to the Corvette name and has helped Cadillac out. like i said Chevy will not do anything to hurt the Corvette name, period. now if you say one in the same between the XLR and the Vette, won't happen. if they wanted to, they could have dropped the LS7 in the XLR with a manual and boom, one in the same. but they didnt. it still has a manual and 36 less hp than the Z06. so no, i dont think they ever will be. similar? yes. the same? no. :D not gonna happen bro :) .
