Has anyone have an answer for this one. I have a 2000 Catera. When I start the engine and the ignition is in the on position the Radio, door locks, overhead dome lights do not work. As soon and I turn the engine off the radio comes on and overhead dome lights work. I think it may be the ignition switch. Does anyone know for sure?:crying:
Believe it or not, this exact same thing happened to me.
My story is in another thread titled "weak alternator" started by someone else. I don't know how to link to it from here so I'll copy and paste my response to him. The pumps I refer to are electric pumps that help circulate coolant to the heater and while at low idle. I don't know if this helps, but let me tell you about my experience which still baffles me.
Sunroof would open and close all by itself.
Radio would work only in Acc mode, not when car (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/#) was running.
Took it to the dealer. Replaced 2 auxillary water pumps (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/#) and the fuse. Replaced the sunroof actuator.
Problems are gone. I don't know which one fixed the radio, but I think it was caused by the faulty pump somehow. Maybe it is tied into the ignition switch circuit somehow. Thank god for extended warranty (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/#) cause it wasn't cheap, but I think they are fairly easy to do yourself. Diagnosing is the big problem for me. I can swap just about anything.
