Does anyone have a possible solution for rusted missing slots for the fuel-pump locking ring? Would like to drill and bolt, but it is out of the question due to the fuel. Have heard of the use of placing dry ice in the tank to evaporate and fill the space above the fuel with CO2. It was caused by a poor design that collected dirt and caused corrosion of the tabs.

If the ring is rusted, get a new locking ring, if the tabs are rusted off on the tank, get a new tank.
Don't mess around with gas tanks! Fuel leaks can be deadly, not to mention that if you don't get it sealed you'll have a new close relationship with your check engine light.
It will want to visit you all the time.
A salvage yard might be a good place to look for either part if you don't want to shell out the cash for new parts.
