: Key blank for 2000 Catera -- Cheap source?

Hello all,

Does anyone know of a dealer/distributor that sells key blanks for the 2000 Catera at a reasonable price? Today my son went to get a spare key made for his new (used) Catera at the local Cadillac dealer and was told it would cost $130 and that he had to pay for it up-front as it was a special order key, then take it their service center to have it 'installed' (he did not find out how much that would cost) .

So I went to a local key shop and found out that in the 2000 and 2001 models, they used a special/different chip in the key. They can cut the key and program it to the car for $20 if I can find a blank. The key shop believes the part number is 9120300.

Any help is (again) appreciated!

OUCH!!!! Why is that key so expensive? This is a Catera, not a Rolls Royce. The locksmitch said keys for much more expensive Cadillacs (and imports) are not this much...

Unless we can find one for less, the son will have to be careful not to lose the one he has -- he cannot afford this with all the other items he has to buy for this car.

Has only ever tried to bypass the system (and use a standard key)? We did buy a valet key and if we put the original key below the ignition switch the valet key would start it. Maybe we can hide the key so that the valet key will always work???
