I have an 05, non Nav, non 5.1 system. I have gone through 4 subs and really think the Bose subwoofer is worthless. I was wondering if anyone has changed there deck speaker to an aftermarket one?

I have read the threads on adding subs, but I do not want to alter the look nor loose the trunk space because I use the car to travel in. I just want to see if I can hang an aftermarket speaker in the place of the bose sub without mods and without adding an aftermarket amp or speaker box..

Thanks in advance

one of the options.
search internet or local stereo shops for a "free air subwoofers"
this type of subwoofers don't require enclosure (speaker box)

I was more wondering if anyone had done it. The factory system is ok, but as soon as you accelerate the bass comes down, sitting at a complete stop the sub hits alot harder.
Check it out next time you are driving, just turn the bass all the way up and listen to a son that has consistent bass notes and then drive off, the tone will change..

I think you should check audio setting on you nav radio.
and posibly read from navigation book manual what each of those settings do.
it may have a lot to do with it.

I do not have a Nav system, or a 5.1.. It is the normal stereo.. Any one know the watts it puts out?
I will look through the forum i think we went over this once before

i have the same issue with mine... I have been doing a lot of research and can't find a solid resolution. A few options...

1. Rebuild the rear deck for a custom enclosure(the most expensive but cleanest)

2. Look into putting an MTX - Free Air Marine sub. it operates at 200 RMS which is as good as most enclusre subs.

3. another option is because the stock sub is so bad, put in a regular enclosure sub in the deck, but find one that has a very high minimum enclosure size. It should still hit harder than the stock but will not be too overpowering.

4. take out the spare tire and put a quality 12' in its place.

I am leaning towards the marine speaker, but becuase of the magnet it will be about 3-4 inches longer and be visible within the trunk.
