I Still cant believe it. I was in the car driving and some person backs up from his driveway and rear ends me. When I get out and walk towards him and revs and takes off in his car.

I called the cops and they said legally I cant do anything b/c I cant Identify him. This sucks so much. I said what if I say I cant identify him and the cop says well what does he look like then.

I went to his house today and talked to his wife and he wasnt at home. Im not gona let this go. The cop even said to me legally u cant do anything but you could stay in the limit and try what ever possible to get him to fix this.

If nothing works. Im gona have to pay for this my self. Where do I get parts and what needs to replaced here. Thanks alot every1

What do u mean u cant identify him??? You know where the bugger lives! Id park in his driveway till he came home. Whats wrong with the legal system in Canada? If you have proof i.e. photos of the damage on his car, your car, and the police report from that day that wont hold up in court :hmm:? Thats what happens when a country puts all its money in healthcare.

The good news is that's not too bad. You'll need a new taillight and bumper cover- the trunk can be fixed with a little filler and sanding.

Check Ebay for the parts, I've seen lots of CTS taillights there (they're exactly the same as ours) and perhaps the bumper cover too. Paint on the bumper cover should run between $300-$400 for a good job, and figure another $300 for the decklid. The taillight you can install yourself.

I'd guess around $1,000 for the whole job, so depending on your deductible, you may not even want to claim it. Even if you aren't at fault, they'll still try to give you the ole' Captain's Mast after filing a claim.

Don't stress over it though.... I was heartbroken when my bumper got crunched, but now you can't even tell.

your paint is on his bumper, you saw it, you can ID the car, and you know where his house is.
you cant call the detective and press charges? should be a chip shot.
and call your insurance company, tell them who did it, see if they have a lawyer to go after his insurance. (get his license plate)

I would agree with urbanski... Short of calling the Insurance Company and starting a paper trail that "could" lead to a claim and a higher premium next year, I'd call a legal aid outfit and get them to draft a letter on fancy stationary and send it to him registered mail or better yet, by messenger.

The letter should ask how he will address the damage he has caused and that if you do not have a reply legal action will ensue...

It'd be a good start anyway.

Here is the piont you all are missing. Its not a questions of whether he can identify the car that hit him, the question is whether he can identify the driver. From the sound of it, he probably can't identify the driver...at least not until he sees him come home one night......

I would hope the laws in Canada aren't that different. It should be easy enough to look and see damage on his car that matches the damage on yours in front of a police officer. Even if he denies he was driving you should be able to track it to his car.

Maybe post a picture of his house and what he looks like and little reward money...:sneaky:

Chef - Let us all know how this works out. There has to be a way to recover the damages. The law in the US is the car and car insurance cover the loss regardless of the driver. It's the same way if I let a friend drive my fully insured vehicle. He's covered under my policy now. This is of course hoping that the drive does in fact have insurance.

I got tagged earlier this year by a bitch that ran. I never did find her and ulitmately paid to have the car fixed myself (White Diamond tri-coat metallic = $$). The cops did go look for her, but since I was in a dead OnStar area it took a good 5 minutes to drive around to get enough signal to talk to a dispatcher (thanks, OnStar!). By that time she was long gone and laughing all the way.

Since you know where this SOB lives you CANNOT let it go. You need to avenge all those who have been hit and run upon.

i would do what the cops said to do and try to get him to pay for it. and you do drive a V so how did you let him get away? But what ever you do dont go through insurance, that job wont cost that much and it's not worth it.

Sorry guys I said it a little wrong that it wasnt a car. It was a SUV and on his steel bumper u cant even see anything.

UPDATE: I went to his house. Legally I cant do anything in *****IN CANADA but I will make sure I make him pay one way or another

I always wanted to go to Canada. You can buy an island there for like 100 grand. Two wrongs don't make a right but....well, you know.

If it was me I would turn it over to my insurance company. My insurance company does not raise rates unless the accident is over 50% your fault. They will fix your car and go after his insurance. Doesn't matter who was driving his car, insurance companies insuer cars not people.

That just sucks about what happened and the apathetic police.:banghead:
