View Full Version : Drag Racing Music CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 02:05 PM Hey you guys I need a favor. For my Digital Cinema class we have to make a still photograph video. My video deals with drag racing: 97 ETC vs. 83 Trans Am. We can't have dialogue, only sounds effects and music. So what I need from you guys is a good drag racing song or any racing song for that matter.
*You'll also get your name in the credicts! :D xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 02:08 PM Rob Zombie.... Dragula! Take the lyrics out and its a kick ass track to drive to. Then you got Cake ...going the distance from Fashion Nugget CD. THat would be a good one with the lyrics in it. hardrockcamaro@mac.c 10-09-06, 02:25 PM Always liked Boom! by P.O.D. myself
Pretty much ends with:
is that all you got
I'll take your best shot.
Well, it's alright! It's alright!
I'll take your best shot.
I'll take your best shot.
is that all you got
I'll take your best shot.
Well, it's alright! It's alright!
I'll take your best shot.
I'll take your best shot.
Boom! Here comes the Boom!
Ready or not, here comes the boys from the South
Boom! Here comes the Boom!
Ready or not, (haha)How you like me now?
If on the vid you had the car launching on the first "Boom!" that's pretty cool. xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 02:28 PM Thats an awesome song....P.O.D. rocks... ever listem to any of Tommy Lee's Mayem? He's got some really good tracks on his CD. CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 02:45 PM Boom and Dragula are good
I was thinking Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles originally but I'm not too sure... hence why I asked the forum for ideas! xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 02:49 PM just depends on what you like.....Limp Bzkit has a life in the fastlane version too. xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 02:50 PM he runs a transAm right? The instrumental part from "Hot Rod Lincoln" would probably work. xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 02:53 PM i like that song.....good call. CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 02:54 PM He runs a TA? I'm not sure haven't seen it CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 03:24 PM I also got recommend Jin "Peel Off" from 2 Fast 2 Furious Older song but how about "Born to be Wild" lyrics suit racing... just a thought xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 03:32 PM Peel off is the perfect song....I think steppenwolf is a bit to old for a 25th anniversary TA. I think it would suit some older cars like the early 70's camaros. turbojimmy 10-09-06, 03:41 PM A local Buick guy put together a compilation set to Adema's "Freaking Out". I think it's neat. This link might also give you some ideas around how to edit your video (I'm the GN launching against the GTO):

Jim CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 03:45 PM that is sweet! thanks for the help! xxpinballxx 10-09-06, 03:48 PM nice footage. That late 80's early 90's s10 really launched! turbojimmy 10-09-06, 03:59 PM that is sweet! thanks for the help!
You're welcome. Many of his Buick vids are actually videos of stills. See here:

EDIT: I take that back. It looks like the stills are mixed in with videos and many are mostly videos. It's been a while since I've watched those.
Jim CadillacGurl 10-09-06, 06:00 PM Those are really good. Mad props to him! Fuel by Metallica, of course! Find some powerful Opera, like Wagner's Die Walkure :D OffThaHorseCEO 10-09-06, 07:48 PM can the music have words in it, or does it have to be music? I~LUV~Caddys8792 10-09-06, 08:44 PM Lets see here...drag racing music from Chad's library....
"Bat Out Of Hell" by Meatloaf.
Screaming guitars, killer lyrics, uptempo song about "getting out of this town" with lots of hope, the ultimate motorcycle crash song. I love it!
Here's the best lyrics, I'd pick these for a drag race scene in a movie:
"I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram
On a silver-black phantom bike.
When the metal is hot, and the engine is hungry
And we're all about to see the light.
Nothing ever grows in this rotting old hole,
And everything is stunted and lost.
And nothing really rocks, and nothing really rolls,
And nothing's ever worth the cost.
Well I know that I'm damned if I never get out,
And maybe I'm damned if I do,
But with every other beat I've got left in my heart,
You know I wanna be damned with you.
If I gotta be damned, you know I wanna be damned
Dancing through the night with you
Well if I gotta be damned, you know I wanna be damned,
Gotta be damned, you know I wanna be damned
Gotta be damned, you know I wanna be damned
Dancing through the night,
Dancing through the night,
Dancing through the night with you"
Or this part...
"Well I can see myself tearing up the road
Faster than any other boy has ever gone.
And my skin is raw, but my soul is ripe,
And no one's gonna stop me now, I'm gonna make my escape.
But I can't stop thinking of you,
And I never see the sudden curve until it's way too late.
And I never see the sudden curve until it's way too late.
Then I'm dyin' in the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun,
Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike,
And I think somebody somewhere must be tolling a bell.
And the last thing I see is my heart, still beating,
Breaking out of my body and flying away
Like a bat out of hell."
Another great one, I love cruising with this song and basically the entire album.... "Born To Run" by Bruce Springsteen.
Here's the entire song...
"In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run
Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
and strap your hands across my engines
Together we could break this trap
We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back
Will you walk with me out on the wire
`Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta find out how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
girl I want to know if love is real
Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard
The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard
The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight
In an everlasting kiss
The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight
but there's no place left to hide
Together Wendy we'll live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
Someday girl I don't know when
we're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go
and we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
baby we were born to run" turbojimmy 10-09-06, 09:02 PM Drag racing music has to be angry stuff. It's not cruising around stuff. You back the rear tires into water to deliberately make them slippery. You roll up and lock the brakes on the front wheels and drop the trans into 2nd gear to keep the line pressure high. The guy gives you the sign and you roast the tires until the water burns off and bits of rubber fill the wheel wells and acrid smoke pollutes the air. Rolling up to the line you light the pre-stage bulbs and then in a hollow gesture of respect for your opponent you wait for him to pre-stage before you cross the staged beams. Once you're both staged you hold hundreds (or thousands) of foot-lbs. of torque back with your left foot on the brake; your right on the gas. As the last amber dims you let it all loose in a fury of power that numbs your senses. You hang on for dear life as you push the gas pedal so hard that you think you might put it through the floor. All the while you're hoping that everything stays together - engine, trans, driveshaft, rear and tires. In the few seconds you have you glance around at the gauges while simultaneously keeping an eye on the concrete ahead. As the timing board whips by you brake hard for the return road optimistic that the slip you are about to pick up proves that all the blood, sweat and tears you've poured into the car netted you a tenth or two better than you'd done before. It's hard and fast. I like the angry music to go with it. If I could hear anything through my helmet with the 1987 sound system I'd make it Metallica. But I can't hear anything but turbo, exhaust and wind so I don't bother with the radio - that's for the cruise home.
Jim Stoneage_Caddy 10-09-06, 09:08 PM primus , jerry was a race car driver I~LUV~Caddys8792 10-09-06, 09:23 PM Well if it's "loud and fast" we want, without good lyrics, than I'd go with "Wherever I May Roam" by Metallica..or "Master Of Puppets", god I love that song. An example with Opera (about 35 sec in).

Pretty relaxing song actually, not real heavy if thats what your after
Two in a row, everybody knows
At the green light you rev it on the red line
Been waitin all week to get my wheels on the street
Get my hands on the wheel, slide down in the seat
Shes wearin new colors and runnin pretty good
I got four hundred horses tucked under the hood
But theres no need to panic, its under control
Were aerodynamic and ready to roll
Rev on the red line
Youre on your own
Rev on the red line
Just let it go
Runnin all night on lake avenue
Its a piece of cake
If you know what to do
Youve got to lose a few
til the stakes get high
When the odds are right
You just blow by
And make no mistake, theres women who just wait
For the man and machine with the best time
Rev on the red line
Youre on your own
Feels like a lifetime
But soon youll know
Wasnt long ago I couldve lost my wheels
Had to outrun the law, it was no big deal
I guess they had a grudge, they were hot on my tracks
I had to pay off the judge to get my license back
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat
Hear my motor screamin while Im tearin up the street
Rev on the red line
Youre on your own
Rev on the red line
Just let it go
Rev on, rev on
Rev on, rev on
Dont think Ill ever learn to slow down
Rev on, youll still be here and Ill be gone

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go
<snip>
Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the track
And shovin' into overdrive
<snip>
You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go
Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity davesdeville 10-10-06, 06:07 AM Hahaha Kenny Loggins...
I'd use Born To Raise Hell from Motorhead. Or the Macarena, just for comedic effect. xxpinballxx 10-10-06, 10:16 AM Turbojimmy...the way you described the racing experience i could almost smell the rubber and feel my right foot getting heavier! That's what I was going for. You have to live it in order to pick the soundtrack for it. All the suggestions are great, I just prefer something harsh to go along with it. The Zombie selections are good. I saw him last month with Godsmack - it's good stuff.
Jim EcSTSatic 10-10-06, 10:51 PM Nobody has mentioned Highway Star by Deep Purple!
Nobody gonna take my car
Im gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
Its gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh its a killing machine
Its got everything
Like a driving power big fat tyres
And everything
I love it and I need it
I bleed it yeah its a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
Im a highway star
Nobody gonna take my girl
Im gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Oooh shes a killing machine
Shes got everything
Like a moving mouth body control
And everything
I love her I need her
I seed her

Alright hold on tight
Im a highway star
Nobody gonna take my head
I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head
Now that Im on the road again

Eight cylinders all mine
Alright hold on tight

Here's one along the same lines as Highway Star.... Led Zeppelin's "Trampled Underfoot"
Greased and slicked down body, groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road, mama, it ain't no sin
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Trouble-free transmission, helps your oil's flow
Mama, let me pump your gas, mama, let me do it all
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Dig that heavy metal underneath your hood
Baby, I could work all night, believe I've got the perfect tools
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
A model built for comfort, really built with style
Special list edition, mama, let me feast my eyes
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Factory air-conditioned, heat begins to rise
Guaranteed to run for hours, mama it's a perfect size
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Groovin' on the freeway, gauge is on the red
Gun down on my gasoline, I believe I'm gonna crack a head.
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
I can't stop talkin' about...
Come to me for service every hundred miles
Baby, let me check your points, fix your overdrive
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Fully automatic, comes in any size
Makes me wonder what I did, before we synchronized
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Feather-light suspension, coneys just couldn't hold
I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors
Talkin' 'bout love (X3)
Oh, I can't stop talkin' about love. behind-bars 10-10-06, 11:23 PM Ooh the last 2 reminded me of another good one.
Rush - Red Barchetta
My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm, before the motor law
And on sundays I elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire, where my white-haired uncle waits.
Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind,
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me, an old machine ---
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime...
Wind in my hair ---
Shifting and drifting ---
Mechanical music ---
Adrenalin surge ---
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly, ahead of me, across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires, to run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, Ive got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle

Rick Ross has a new song Push it to the limit. The beat used/hook was sampled from an older song that would probably be great. Listen to the rick ross song then try to find the originator. Really cool too... I played it on my way back to the apartment tonight... got me in the spirited driving mood... which is not very often at all with the bad clutch.... but I pushed it.... wanted to see what it'll do... 30, 50 and 80... the speed in MPH that the first 3 gears took me, shifting around 5,500-5,800RPM (6k redline... but loosing power by then) It's quite fun to drive.... but, back to being easy on it.
funny how a song can totally change your mood on stuff. Richard Miller 10-18-06, 03:14 PM that song from "smoky and the bandit"
