...........My first post and a first time ESV/Caddy owner.... We bought a used 2003 ESV. The NAV system will not work when the DVD is hot (that's my guess). We'll take out the DVD and let it cool off and many times it'll work when placed back in the NAV unit. We've had pretty good luck taking it out everytime we turn off the Caddy, but it gets to be a pain to remove, store, then re-incert every time we stop "and" shut off the motor. Any thoughts on the problem? .....and I must say, I'm guessing that it's heat related... Many Thanks, Taylor

I doubt that it is heat related. I would guess that the disc is scratched. They are pretty much regular cd's that hold the country so I am sure it is not that hard to scratch it. Borrow a friends cd who also has an Escalade and see if it happens. If the same thing happens, then you need a new navigation unit and if it works perfectly, then you need a new cd. Hopefully it is a new cd and not a new unit. The cd is pretty expensive alone, but not as much as a new navigation unit would be. I believe the navigation cd will cost around $400. Let me know how it turns out.

Thanks.

i've had a probelem with my head unit not working because its too hot. a message comes up that says something about the operating temp being too high and navigation will be disabled until the unit reaches a safe temp. this happened in my 03 esv this summer when the outside temp was around 119 and the interior and dash were extremely hot as you could imagine. it started working one the car got running and the ac cooled the inside some about 5 to 10 mins.

Thanks!!! My wife knows a couple down the street with an Escalade. Not sure the year, but I think newer than ours. We'll see if we can try their CD (or is it a DVD?). Also, our CD is original, so maybe we should buy a new/updated one anyway? But I want to make sure our NAV unit works first.... Your thoughts? ...and do they really cost $400!! Ouch!! Where's the best place to buy? I assume a dealer would have new ones but would cost an arm and leg. Maybe people sell their old ones on eBay. I'll also look here in the classified section... Thanks Again!!! Taylor

Yes, I have seen some navigation discs on ebay. Don't buy the disc before you try your friend's disc. Make sure it is the disc before spending the money on a new one. I live in South Florida and it gets very hot here and I have never had any issues with my navigation. Good luck and let me know how everything turns out.

Thanks.
