Ok, just like you guys told me, changing a non-Bose to Bose system is just too much work. But, with good initial intentions I bought a Bose head unit. Now, am I stuck with it or will it work in my non-Bose system? I am thinking I am stuck. I do have the VIN of the car it came from. If I am stuck, does anybody want to buy it?
Thanks

stuck
bose system hu has no amplification it uses 4 mini amps 1 for each speaker on the eldo.
again man if you WANT to get it to work i will help gonna be hard though

That's what I thought. Like most owners, I don't want to mess up the looks of the car with an after market unit. Doing the change over is within my ability, but I am little concerned about the harness. Seems like it wil be the biggest issue. If I do decide to plow ahead with it, will the speakers I believe you have listed on eBay work for the rear? One thing that I have to consider is I have an Old School Percision Power Art series amp. just sutting around. If you have been around audio equipment for some time, you know this is a great amp. I am thinking about using it on my current OEM HU, and adding a CD changer. What do you think...especially about the wire harness issue?
Thanks for you willingness to help.

even if you have to use aftermarket hu i would do whatever it takes to use that ppi man, good stuff. you shouldnt let it sit around like that. in my 94 sls i made a custom trim piece and wrapped it with the same color vinyl as the dash pad...

theres a few pages, but just check out what i did. also, the dvd screen is for sale since its too deep to fit in my 2000 sts. need any help man, let me know. peace

Wow! You system is insane! You are a real craftsman. I think I will just use a line level to RCA unit so I can use th PPI amp, and install a nice set of compenent speakers up front, maybe add a couple of upgraded speakers on the reak deck lid. I really like Boston Acoustic speakers.

ok heres the question of the ages gust...
still got those custom kick panels if so id love to buy them...
after all i am helpin you with your install lol

also nc
indeed i know of ppi
i still run my US-AMPS de-1000
i always considered us and ppi on of the best amps

unfortunately, no, i dont....sorry dude. its actually fairly easy to build them. it takes some hard work and a little cash, but its easy to figure out. i still might do them in my car now and if i do, ill post up pics on how to do it. im trying to keep my install as simple as possible, but it never ends up that way. im sure ill end up doin something ridiculous.

dude i know nothing and cant make anything custom like that, wish i could though... hence why id rather pay for them then waste my time lol

if i still had mine id build you a pair but ufnortunately my car's interior is different. i still might build some for mine and if people like them well enough i might consider building more for sale. i might actually post pics of the process if i get to that point. im trying to get cracking here guys but time and money are two hurdles im trying to get over right now. i still have my h/u problem to deal with.

ps, sorry if the thread seems hijacked, not my intention.

This is coming from someone who has NEVER worked w/ the bose setup, but...

Would it not be possible to run the output of the bose HU into a pair of amps in a more 'typical' fashion?

Possibly thru an EQ to compensate for whatever the bose puts out...

Bose LF/LR into AMP to LF/LR speaks,
Bose RF/RR into OTHER AMP to RF/RR speaks....

Or something similar?:bouncy:

nope
bose amps have their own eq curve.
hence why you cannot and should not use bose speaks with anything other than bose amps

No... I meant bose HU -> (2) 'regular' amps -> (4) 'regular' speaks....

i know what your saying
but the bose hu itself has NO EQ
your normal hu has some EQ built in to provide the sound
the Bose hus do NOT
they also require a transponder/singal box in order to "decode" the bose hu signal send it to the mini amps where they receieve amplification and their EQ curve and then send that signal to the Bose speaks.

He could....he would just have to buy an EQ and have that as a middle man between the amps and speakers and have to know how to set it.

true but thats a waste of money
cleansweep would be the best option imho if hes hell bent on the bose hu

I'm not sure I understand where you're going here...
The EQ built-into the discrete bose amps are tuned to provide the best sound from the speakers they use...

I guess you're saying there is no bass/treble controls on the bose HU?
Which means they are providing 'tone-flat' output.... with no adjustability.
Which would be true EVEN THO the amps are EQed... they still have no adjustability...

Or am I missing my mid-range?

you can use the hu to boost the amps treb and base however they have their own eq built into the amp this is what sets the bose amp apart from the "base" system amps.
this is also why you CAN replace bose speakers with aftermarket ones (though i do not reccomend this because they are built for one ohm operation, the lowest aftermarket ohm speaks are two, due to tha added resistance the aftermarket speaks will sound better however not as loud), but you CANNOT use bose speaks with aftermarket hus and amps (less the amp is 1 ohm stable)

Okay, I'm gonna try this one more time... just 'cause I'm dense...:bighead:

What you're saying is...
.... That the HU does NOT have internal 'eq' and the output of the HU is 'tone flat'.
.... That the HU DOES have controls for bass/treble and that information is transmitted to the speaker-amp units where ALL the 'eq' adjustments take place.
.... That this transmittal of information comes thru this interface (transponder) on the other end of the vehicle.

Does this 'sound' correct?

CadillacSTS2003
10-08-06, 08:07 AM
yes correct
it goes through the transponder box which interprets the sound and the data and "decodes" it
it then sends the sound data to the amps, is amplified and is then sent to the speaks.
