My wife and I are first time Caddy owners. We picked up an 06 STS (V6 Luxury Package) last month. So far we enjoy it alot. We have one problem, however. The car was supposed to come with an XM radio. Ours doesn't have it. I have called the dealer sales rep, and am bringing it in on tuesday 9/26 to have them check it out. The sales rep says he has only seen this one time before in 17 yrs of Caddy selling. He also say that, because of wiring harness issues it will be very difficult to install a radio with XM in it.

We would like XM in this car. Should that be easy to do for the dealer? Or do I need to get creative in how to address the situation and get what we want?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes it does have the XM equipment, it might have a bad tuner or a wiring problem.
They just need to diagnose and repair the vehicle, you won't be "adding" anything, they should just have to restore operation of the unit.
Is it a regular radio or a nav unit?

Thanks to both. It is a regular radio, not the Navigator.

Should I be able to get XM by just pressing the band button until I get it? Or am I missing the correct way to access XM?

Dave (feeling sheepish...)

look man, I don't want to be a jack ass, but if someone gave you last 8 of his vin # and if you still asking him if he's got nav radio or not. isn't wierd ?
By the way, he does not.
earlier i posted all options that his vehicle came with

Sorry, I didn't read all the options.
In retrospect, I get your point and it does seem obvious, but life is being a little hard on me right now.
How about a little slack there bro?
BTW, how about taking a jab at the guy with the car for answering my "stupid" question? :D

You should be able to select it as a band from pressing the "band" button, yes.
If it's not there then the radio is not communicating with the Digital receiver.
It's mounted on the rear shelf and a pain to get to.
Just take it to the dealer and they should be able to fix it.

Curious, I have the exact same situation. We discovered it during my walk through when I took delivery about a week ago. I have a 2006 Cadillac STS V6 with 1SB package. All the documentation, including VIN search, even GM Canada's Cadillac website shows that all 2006 Cadillac STS models (all trimlines) include XM Radio as a Standard feature.

However, when we flipped through source and bands, no XM1 or XM2 shows up. Even the service manager was stumped along with the resident Cadillac product specialists. They put in a call to GM Canada to find out what to do. The service manager believes that it'll probably require a firmware flash.

After 2 weeks of driving my new STS, the only problems I've come up with are the missing XM radio, missing cargo net (on order), missing manuals (on order), and the turkey who did the dealership tint did a bad job. On the latter, there is already some minor bubbling, and the rear windshield has this odd halo effect at night whenever you look at lights through it. The dealership has already committed to fixing the tint, but want to hold off temporarily to try and do the XM radio at the same time.

Let me know what your dealership finds out, and I'll do the same. Cheers

I'm "the stupid guy," and I'll admit I posted the last 8 of the VIN with some trepidation. I'mnot a "car guy" and figured the last 8 were like the last 4 on a credit card, but maybe not. Can someone please tell me what I've left myself open to having done posted the last 8?

Big-Tex, car goes in tomorrow AM. I should have an answer by tomorrow night. I'll let you know.

Dave, good luck with your car. I took a closer look at your features and it appears that we have literally identical cars with the exception that mine has the sunroof on it. I'm not sure if you've tinted your glass yet, but look into it. It looks absolutely amazing with the tint.

I should get a call from my dealership today regarding my XM situation as well.

mrtrumpet, I didn't intend to call you stupid, hope I didn't come accross that way, my comment was that my question was apparently "stupid".
You didn't open yourself up to anything by posting the last 8.
Those with access can look at your warranty history but that really shouldn't be an issue.
If you are worried about it, you can edit your post to remove it.

I think they'll find the XM reciever is not communicating with the radio, for whatever reason.
The '05 STS was bad for that but they have released an updated part that should be in production.

Thanks to all for the help. Caddilac Tech, you're right. It was a computer programming issue that was the glitch. The XM unit now communicates fine with whatever it needs to and the sound is glorious!

Big Tex, I hope you're problem is the same. My dealer's tech people had to call the GM engineers, but they walked them through it. BTW, we have a sunroof too. I guess they're twins! Did you tint the sunroof or your windows?

Glad it turned out to be a minor issue.

That gives me some positive news. I haven't had the time to bring my STS in for the firmware flash. Hopefully the service dept won't have too much issues with it. While I'm not all that excited about XM, I know I need it running in order to get one of those units that I can tie an AUX input for an iPod later though. 3 free months of XM doesn't hurt either.

No, I didn't tint sunroof -- it already has a bit of solar tint anyhow. Enjoy your STS :)

Cheers!

My mother has an 04 CTS that has XM radio. It worked fine until she had 2 have the cd changer replaced which I guess was the whole radio. When she got it back, it was like the car never had XM radio and the buttons on the steering wheel functioned different as well. I took the car back and the service advisor tried to tell me the car didn't have the option but I explained to him that it had it before they changed the radio and it worked fine and we were still paying for the service, even though it no longer existed in the car! Finally, they figured out that something wasn't programmed right and they got XM back functioning in the car. Maybe it's the same for you. Possibly all the hardware is there but they just to program the car to use it.
